It did not hurt Arizona that their ace was Kurt Heyer, who was a Freshman All-American and two-time All-American, and their second-best pitcher was Konner Wade, who pitched for the Orioles last season. Arizona scored 61 runs and only gave up 15 earned runs en route to Omaha.
In comparison:
2018 North Carolina scored 48 runs and allowed 19 earned runs in the five games before Omaha.
2018 Oregon State scored 49 runs and allowed 7 earned runs in the five games before Omaha.
They were both 10-0 after securing the title.
3-0 Regionals
2-0 Supers Regionals
3-0 College WS
2-0 College WS Finals
I'd still put the 2017 & 2018 Oregon St squads against anybody, though.(College teams)
They might not win it but they sure were fun to watch.
The next best finish was 11-1. Both 2007 Oregon State and 2010 South Carolina finished 11-1.
2009 LSU finished 10-1.
The next best finish was 11-2. 2004 Cal State Fullerton, 2005 Texas, 2006 Oregon State and 2018 Oregon State each finished 11-2.
2003 Rice, 2015 Virginia and 2019 Vanderbilt each went 10-2.
By percentage, the next-best outing was 2006 North Carolina and 2015 Vanderbilt. The Heels and Dores each won the first nine games before losing twice in a row (to Oregon State and Virginia, respectively) in the Championship Series.
2004 Texas won the first eight games before losing two to Cal State Fullerton in the Championship Series.
2007 Rice won the first seven games before losing two to North Carolina to miss out on the Championship Series, setting up Oregon State's 2007 National Championship. 2016 Oklahoma State won the first seven games before losing two to Arizona to miss out on the Championship Series. 2017 Oregon State won the first seven games before losing two to LSU to miss out on the Championship Series.
