Interesting how taking 2 of 3 moved Long Beach up 12 notches, but losing 2 of 3 (to Long Beach) only moved Mississippi St down 3.
I think that worked out well for both teams.

SEC teams are too good to be unranked. 8 SEC teams in D1 rankings. Entire 3rd of their "top 25". Meanwhile they have a grand total of 3 Pac12 teams. Just a notch under the consistently amazing Big12 with 4 teams and well behind the ACC. #9 Florida lost a home series to Liberty on opening weekend. Guess which teams are now both "top 25" teams. D1Baseball = SEC/ACC lapdog

I imagine if we had that sort of following here up and down the Pac 12, we’d find more teams in the rankings. Not gonna happen though.

The best source of college baseball news available is just playing to the numbers. It would be great if we could generate the kind of fan support on the west coast that you see in the south. Then again, not all SEC programs are LSU. Some nice stadiums down there, but I think the fan support down there or the "lack" thereof here in the west is over-stated. The question then becomes, are the rankings based on who is the best teams, or just who pulls in the most fans on gameday?

So, I've just recently moved to Texas and just from going to various sporting events and talking to fans. 1) The saavy ones know who Oregon State is, 2) they all know who the Ducks are regardless of saaviness, 3) East Coast Bias is real and they admit it. They said our games come on just too darn late. I thought it sucked when our games started at 8 PM PST. Now that it's 10 PM CST, it's going to be hard to stay up for games. Silver Lining though, of the baseball people I've been talking to, when I tell them Oregon State, they all go "Why is that so familiar? They're pretty good at baseball, right?" Then I tell them about the last few CWS appearances and Championships and the UT, A&M, Rice, LSU and Miss St people I've talked to go "Oh yeah, that's right!" Honestly, all of them have been really cool. But when you go to an event, and you're a visitor, know your place. Not saying we're not passionate about our teams but...whooo WEEE...they take it to a whole new level and to be perfectly honest, a little too seriously.

Odds are stronger when you have more teams playing.

If it weren't, the #1 team would win it all, which it never has. If you put a bunch of teams in the tournament from one conference above all others, and give them far more host sites year after year isn't it at some point a statistical certainty that the conference will produce more champions than any other? More teams in Omaha, etc, etc.

The question then becomes, are the rankings based on who is the best teams, or just who pulls in the most fans on gameday? I don't think it can be so easily separated out. Fan support goes a long way toward ratings. I remember hearing the TV ratings for the National Championship game back when UofO played Alabama, and it was crazy how few people in the West watched the game. Look at attendance in Omaha, too. There's a lot of money involved in fan support/tv ratings, etc. Good for the game, I suppose. But you also have the warmer weather and a better baseball season (or so I've heard). There's a reason not many northern teams have won it all. As a baseball player, I think it's going to factor into your decision of where to play. Committing to the Beavers means committing to rain and sometimes snow. Not typical baseball weather. Then, like werebeav said, lots of championships in the SEC. They've been able to support all the hype. That goes a long way. But it all blends together in the end, I think.

And if you want to complain about media bias, we need to give back our 2007 Championship. That team shouldn’t have gotten in the tournament.

We don’t have to complain about it, but we ought to acknowledge it. Good thing about it is that it can shift. And in time, it will.

Are we so sure that the ratings have it right? Maybe, just maybe, the west coast is better at baseball than most people think, and those "top" teams from the SEC were enjoying inflated ratings when they also won it all. Not saying they were "bad" teams, but that all of this ranking stuff is mostly fluff, not reality... except for when it influences that NET ratings, or the selection committee. Bottom line, you throw enough crap at the wall and eventually it's going to stick. Pointing out the SEC's dominance in the sport while they are being allowed more opportunities than anyone else is the definition of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Let's look at this another way. The SEC is isn't exactly starting this year with a bang. ACC also took some bad losses last weekend. The Pac12 on the other hand just had it's best first weekend that I can remember. If this keeps up, will it matter? I have my doubts. In fact, I'm pretty sure that even if the SEC tanks all season long, and the Pac12 has it's best collective season ever that the SEC will still get more teams in, and more host sites. The RPI will still continue to churn out the same results that it has been for years, and that's all that will matter. Nearly the entire SEC will be in the post season, and some middling Pac12 teams will be left home. Because, you know, they're just better.

Our 2007 team was not even borderline. We got in because we won it the year before.

D1Baseball = SEC/ACC lapdog It may be that the "south" and some other conferences have actually earned that bias?! Over the Pac12 last decade I can recall (9) Pac12 CWS appearances: Zona ('12, '16, '21) Furd ('21) OSU ('13, '17, '18) UCLA ('13) UW ('18) Not a hugely impressive resume as a conference. Plus the "imagined" Pac8/10/12 elite teams from yesteryear have not been for some time... ASU, SC (43 appearances, 17 combined titles)... with no appearances since 2010, 2001. The SEC and ACC have (37) CWS and (12) championship series appearances in that time with (15) different teams (9 SEC, 6 ACC). *quick peruse so numbers could be off slightly. Pretty easy to see where/why the benefit of the doubt may fall. Especially in meaningless early season rankings (or rankings period) by those who don't chose the at-large teams.
