It was certainly became a debacle. It was also a tragedy. I know. I knew Earnest pretty well in college. Good dude. I saw him play in Portland at the FWC, just a couple of weeks before he died. Beavs beat Minnesota 92-80. I don't recall how many points he scored but I do recall he was a physical presence as a 6'-5" guard/wing with a well-rounded game.

That doesn’t include the part where his family sued and settled with OSU. The thing is, Earnest wanted to play so bad, I’m not sure he would have agreed with his family’s lawsuit. He knew the risks. According to classmates who attended SC with me and knew relatives the family was quite split because of what was perceived as a money grab. According to them, the family (more than just the household) was well versed in the possibilities and Ernest discussed his wishes with them. All hearsay, but really no reason for them to exaggerate the info. Simple fact, it was/is a tragedy and it happens far more than folks realize. It's just most are well known athletes, but weekend warriors who just collapse any all ages.

Yes, but Earnest didn’t flunk out and then hold up a pizza delivery guy at his own house like Chad did.

From what I remember, his father, who was a big star at Stetson and played against the great Randy Smith in the college division (current DII) playoffs, did not want to sue. His mother did. I think the parents were divorced.

Ah yes, the late, great Randy Smith. I remember when he barely made it into the NBA All Star game (as a called up alternate), then was the game MVP!

So, Andrea, she and Jaz started this game, her first since arriving in Australia, the announcers talk about her a lot at the start because of her newness, size, etc. Very hard to read the red numbers on the black background, but Jaz #7 handles the ball a lot and you can find her in the pony tail hopefully, Andrea #31, well, tallest on the floor so ... westadelaidebearcats.nbl1.com.au/games/35d105a5-70a8-11ed-bfd2-6fa09c8b8d20

So this raises a question how could Andrea be cleared to play all the sudden? A heart condition just doesn’t go away? This seems very fishy? Who paid who to keep Andrea off the floor for 5 years? Geez!

So Andrea goes for 19 points in the game in Australia and clearly has a great deal of talent. Obviously we will probably never know the facts of the situation.
However it is hard to overcome the suspicion that OSU was so fearful of potential lawsuits that they just refused to play her, although then one would wonder why she did not transfer out using the portal.
I and I am sure all other Beaver fans wish her success and good health.
There just seem to be a lot of questionable situations that come up around athletic injuries at OSU.
Go Beavs!

Happy to see this. Good for her! Just watching the first 5 minutes.. 1. Love just watching how efficiently and gracefully she glides up and down the court. Not a given for a 6'-9" man or woman. 2. That 3-point stroke! She would have been an inside/outside weapon if we could have gotten her medically cleared. Just nice to see her finally playing. Good for her! It'll be interesting to see how her stat numbers come in over the course of the season.

I suspect it has to do with the differences between US and Australian civil courts case law. In other words, in Australia it could be that if you are presented with the medical risks and you sign a hold harmless - and the worst happens...You're SOL. I'm only guessing, but I find that more plausible than some sort of nefarious "conspiracy" against OSU. Or against Andrea by OSU.

Knowing she is not in "game shape" likely and just arrived, little or no practice with this team, etc. I'll be watching to see how her game goes down the road. Nice to have Jaz there with her, an old friend to translate Aussie for her.

The loss of her playing time was apart of our demise. This is disturbing. Her playing was Rueck dream of going to new heights! This is hard to overlook.
