I couldn't find anything in his history about B-24's and a tail gunner. He did do theatre in high school. If you need to talk poorly about him, maybe you should stick to giving him grief for being an alcoholic. He talked about it - "I was an alcoholic drinker for five years. It's funny. I didn't drink at all until I was in my thirties. That was ordinary Saturday night drinking. In my 40's, that became a problem. Finally one day I said, "I've got to get help for myself." My wife began drinking to keep me company. We'd sit up until three or four in the morning talking, and drinking in the bar at our house. We both became alcoholics . . . "

Can I stop by and take your 9 year old daughter out for ice cream? You seem to be an open minded guy, future father-in-law. (What’s really interesting about this is that by the time she hits 19, I’ll be able to retire. Most of my life would be a complete mystery to her….the cold war, watching the space shuttles, y2k, so much stuff. No common background or experiences. And she in the prime of her life and me in the twilight.) They've been married for about 10 years now. Two people at that age is a lot different than a 9 year old and 55 year old. I'm not sure why you go directly to underage comparisons. What age gap is ok for you, 20yrs, 10yrs, or does it have to be less than 5 yrs difference. I don't necessarily understand it either, but if they are both happy why does it matter. The so-called underage comparison helps me get a sense of what we are talking about…to put it into context, so to speak. That’s all. Why does it matter? Did I say it does matter? I couldn’t care less about Dick Van Dyke or his wife. |

I just have a hard time wrapping my head around those 46 years. That’s a lifetime for some people. Of course, it’s wonderful that they are together and happy. And that, in the end, is all that matters because happiness is difficult to find in this world. |

I think it is just a different model than most of us consider. As I see it, DVD has a wife/caregiver. For wealthy men I don't think it is uncommon. This is not a case where the much younger wife is or was naive. I'm guessing she thought DVD is a very nice man. I'll take care and sleep with him for 10 years and then be in a drastically better financial position.
