There was some talk in another thread about freshman minutes, so I took a look at how the top freshman in the country have fared. I looked at Hoopgurlz top 26 players in the 2021 recruiting class, and found some interesting tidbits, and a deserved shoutout to TVO. It may also give us an idea of what to expect from our highly ranked 2022 class.
3 of the top 26 2021 recruits have not played this year (ACL/knee) Only 2, yes only 2, have started every game they played (Olvia Miles and Talia Von Oelhoffen) Only 10 of the 26 have averaged over 20mpg Only 11 of the 26 average over 5ppg South Carolina landed 4 of the top 26 recruits including #2,#3,and #4, but only one of them is averaging over 10mpg, and none are averaging over 3ppg. North Carolina landed 4 of the top 26, but two haven't played because of injury, and both the other two are averaging under 10mpg. Only 5 of the top 26 2021 recruits are averaging double digits scoring. Here they are in order by PPG: Talia Von Oelhoffen 14.7ppg (# 25 ranked recruit) Olivia Miles 13.8ppg (#8 ranked recruit) Azzi Fudd 12.9ppg (#1 ranked recruit) Caroline Ducharme 12.6ppg (#5 ranked recruit) Sonia Citron (#16 ranked recruit)

Wouldn't playing time have far more to do with the team situation/talent already present than that of the incoming frosh?
Plus TVO wasn't an incoming frosh, she's basically a returning starter. She's been very good, but she had (13) D1 games under her belt... ~24 mpg, 11.3/3.8 still damn good.
The top 26 recruits play for & currently ranked: UConn (3) #10 SCar (4) #1 Texas (2) #14 Ark (2) NR NDame (2) #19 NCar (4) #24 Furd (2) #2 Louis (1) #3 SC (1) NR Mary (1) #13 MichSt(1) NR OSU (1) NR
So only 5 of the 26 went to teams currently unrated. My guess is that those 21 went to rosters that didn't have the need for them to contribute right away/or as mentioned are injured.

"basically" a returning starter except for the part where she never started. But otherwise JUST like one!

At least you actually quoted the correct post. Improvement. Congrats.

Well, duh, playing time is always determined by the talent on a team, and the talent level of the incoming player, and how the coaches feel they fit in with the current situation. I bet none of us knew that. As for your point on TVO, there wasn't anything in that post that says anything about 'incoming frosh" it's about the 2021 recruiting class rankings and impact to their team at this point.

And their impact is determined?? And there was nothing in my post arguing yours. Additional info that even began with a question. I get your point, you're a huge TVO fan! But there is more than one way to look at stats/impact/reasons. Sorry to present additional reality that you took as some sort of affront.

I thought that information was very interesting. Greta's points (6.5 thru 19 games) and minutes (23.8) appear to be fairly well in line, and the minutes are higher than the average. Anybody who was concerned that she might be feeling underutilized and considering a transfer can take heart - she's pretty much right on track with all the McDonald's All Americans.
With respect to Talia, didn't all the other 25 (except Miles?) get a chance to play 4 years of high school ball to prepare themselves for the 2021-'22 collegiate season? Didn't they get the confidence boost of being the undisputed best player in their region and even their state? Oh, and aren't they all basically the same age as Talia? At the same level of their physical growth and development? Played competitive basketball for the same number of years? Have one more year playing on traveling teams against top talent?
Those 13 games helped, no doubt about it. But those other things I listed would have helped too. Talia's a freshman, period.
