Thru 2031.
I know he's seen as infallible, "God-like" on this board. But, a ton can happen in 9 years. There's really no reason to extend him out that long.
Any powerhouse school that really wanted to steal him could easily take on his payout.
Just find the timing and length of time weird.

I respectfully disagree with you 100%. The absolute worst that Coach Rueck could do is so far superior to what we have gotten from basketball and football over the years.
His program and our baseball program are basically the only areas that we are consistently above average. Why not do everything possible to ensure that level of performance.

They really shouldn’t have extended him intill he makes a final four appearance or wins the pac12 again. He’s currently falling short of the goals right now. Which is winning the pac12 title in reg season and in the pac12 Tourney and making it to the final four in March Madness. All the contract extension ensures is a winning season, and a possible birth to the March dance. which is about it.

I really never said much about the program's level of performance. Although in comparison to the three recent seasons it's been a bit down. The point is why 9 years out? Is there a handshake agreement that this is his last contract then he's assured a spot in AD? Too much can happen in that amount of time for that financial commitment. And, it doesn't assure SR would stay. I'm pretty sure he's going to complete his coaching career here and go into the AD. But, anything is possible, and elite programs can afford a large buyout. My thought is that the AD is trying to stabilize a future budget. With the Reser build, the downturn in attendance in sporting events some known stability is needed. And, SR has that timeframe (or sooner if all goes well... or doesn't) to get a successor ready?? Again, to me weird timing and length of commitment.

I agree that 9 years is too long. I don't understand why Jonathon Smith got a 6 year extension. Four years seems fine and you can roll them forward a year at a time if you want.
The downside is what we are seeing with Men's basketball where a one time 3-4 week amazing run equals a six year extension. Ridiculous!

If Scott was willing to be 'stolen', it would have happened long ago. Corvallis is where he and his wife want to be, home for their children. This extension tells Scott that the university will have him as long as he wants, tells the university that Scott will have them as long as they want, and, most importantly, tells recruits that the program will remain intact all 4 years they're here. Win win all around.

He is recruiting kids that could still be at OSU in 9 years. It may be unnecessary, but it’s not pointless.

Just sort of weird.
