He’s right, but he seems to be forgetting that MLB has no salary cap. You already have a pro league where this is the case.

I can't remember the sport or University. (Maybe football or hoops. Maybe UW or USC or?)
But the players lamented running out of eligibility because going to the draft meant making less $.

Alex Karras said that about going from Iowa to the Lions. Said he was glad to be in the NFL but didn’t like the pay cut!

The next thing you know, coaches will go to a better job in a better league where they can make more money. You know, like Kiffin did when he bailed on Florida Atlantic for a better-paying job in a better league with Ole Miss. But, he says it's not OK for a kid to seek out the best deal for himself.

I can't remember the sport or University. (Maybe football or hoops. Maybe UW or USC or?) But the players lamented running out of eligibility because going to the draft meant making less $. It was first associated with Hugh McElhenny at UW. And it was not just a figure of speech, it was literally the truth. McElhenny claimed he and his wife received a combined $10,000 a year while at Washington—with the 49ers, his (1952) rookie salary was worth $7,000.
