A little side note:
Before the meet the teams leave the floor and they ask folks to stand and honor America by saluting the flag while the anthem is played. No issues with any of that.
Then the band plays the anthem and there is no actual flag visible anywhere in Gill. Just animated clips of flags on the video screens. So the fans are all looking in different directions at whichever video screen is displaying the abstract closeup image of a waving flag.
There really should be physical US and State of Oregon flags on display at Gill. Who knows maybe they sent them out for dry cleaning.
Btw. Big crowd I’d say well over half-full. 5000 or so.

Big crowd went away happy. Oregon State wins and breaks the 197 Mark. Jade Carey wins all individual events. Gets two 10 scores from individual judges on beam and floor. Sets Oregon State program record for all around at 39.80. If you have any interest in gymnastics at all you owe it to yourself to see this young woman perform for Oregon state. Amen. Sure glad we bought season tickets for the first time this year. JC is worth the price of admission all by herself. I think she is starting to pull the rest of the team along with her as well. |

Just watching her in warmups is worth the price of admission. Her gymnastics is a unique combination of extreme difficulty with technical mastery of all the details. Also seems completely immune to nerves or pressure. Very glad I went down. Official attendance 4736. |

Our 197 is really good. I see Utah had a 197.4 and a 197.7. We need the others to keep getting better. Utah had high score agzinst number 3 Oklahoma. Too Me those scores are amazing.

On Jade's floor routine at the end the telecast showed Jordan Chiles standing on the side cheering enthusiastically and pumping up the crowd to encourage Jade. So cool. All the Bruins were. It was really great to see! And to think we may get to have her for four years makes Beaver Nation giddy. The only problem is that with scores of 9.95 and higher is that she just doesn't have much upside! LOL |
