Oregon State added more luster to their sparkling 2025 recruiting class with the verbal commitment of SS/ RHP Ryan "R.J." Holmes. Ryan is a 6', 173 pound freshman at Paloma Valley HS in Menefee, California. Ryan has an award winning history playing summer age group travel team baseball with the GBC-Navy Select team (Nomar Garciaparra Family Baseball) in top tournaments across the USA. GBC Navy has sent several players to the Beavers including LHP David Case, currently a freshman at OSU. At age 15, Ryan Holmes has been named to 6 All Tournament teams, won 2 MVP awards, played on 4 RPG Championship teams, including the prestigious Pro-Super 25 Invitational championship.
Scouting repports on Ryan emphasize a lean, wirey frame that will get much stronger, adding to the existing power to all fields in his swing. Has a relaxed, looseness in his swing that keeps the barrel on plane for a long time in the hit zone. Has quick hands and an ideal launch angle off the barrel. Athletic with acceleration and good speed. Has middle infielder defensive skills with an above average arm. Has also played some in the outfield - he has position versatility. The hit tool is a plus.
Ryan is developing as a pitcher with good control and a fastball in the low 80's. Some similarity to OSU's 2022 recruit Dallas Macias. Developed into a good pitching prospect but coaches want that bat in the lineup.
Ryan is currently ranked # 198 nationally and # 33 in California by Rawlings-Perfect Game. PBR is just beginning to rank 2025 players, we'll watch for a ranking this spring. Ryan Holmes joins fellow Californian, Ethan Porter in the Beaver's 2025 Class, along with the Washington trio of Xavier Neyens, Gage Thompson and Mason Pike.
