That one hurts, but it is not in any way solely on Warith missing that lay-in at the end. He played a great game and is one of the reasons we had a chance at the end. If he dunks it there's a good chance he doesn't get it off before time runs out too. As has been our Achilles Heel all season long, poor shooting from outside and allowing too many offensive boards was the difference. There were a couple (maybe more...) hose jobs from the officiating crew (seriously, not one flop call against them when they were throwing themselves on the ground and then the crew calls one on Lucas when his arm was hit?), but in the end that game was there for the taking and the same issues kept us from taking advantage. I get that we're in a zone much of the time, I get that we're down our 2nd best rebounder cause of injury, but that doesn't excuse getting beat on the glass so much. When the opposing team gets a near 50/50 shot at a 2nd chance after every missed shot you aren't going to win many games. I like that we have been taking care of the ball better, I attribute a lot of that to Davis emerging as a very good PG, and this has contributed to better showings the last 3 games. It's disappointing that the start to the season was so poor, because the way this team has played the last three games, it would be a really fun team and season to watch unfold had we taken care of business early on. Unfortunately, we killed all post-season hopes sans a conference tourney run again, so hopefully we can keep making strides to at least give us something to look forward to and root for in Vegas two months from now.
EDIT: Also, I know the crowd was smaller tonight due to it being a rescheduled, short notice Monday night game, but hats off to the Beavs in attendance tonight. That was an electric atmosphere for a 50ish% capacity crowd. 5,000 sounded like 10,000 a lot of the night and absolutely contributed to the comeback to tie the game multiple times.
I do agree that our inability or unwillingness to box out and our putrid 3 point shooting continue to kill us

Actually it was a good game to watch. We could have folded when we were down by nine but rallied to tie it late and just came up short. Lucas had an off night but Davis and Alatishe played solid and Silva played a good second half. Taylor played pretty solid as well.....we need to get better on the defensive boards Lucas had a terrible game. Silva missed more than a third of the second half with foul trouble. And yet, Oregon State only lost by two. In 2021, Oregon State dropped the Civil War game in Corvallis by 13. And then won six straight. And I believe two previous years before last season Beavs won home Civil War matchup and proceeded to lose next 4 out of 5. So your takeaway is it what better to lose? On the plus side, Beavs managed to keep it close with Lucas adding little. Davis, Taylor and Malone-Key continue to impress — especially the first two. On the negative side. I get the old adage that shooters got to shoot, but the team outside of Lucas shot 61% last night. Maybe Lucas should have played decoy a bit more. But give him credit for the nice pass to Alitishe at the end of the game. And though credit has to be given for keeping this close and having a chance at the end, this could have been a much larger margin of victory for the Ducks with them missing 10 free throws and not capitalizing often enough on the 17 offensive rebounds. In the end Beavs weren’t as quick to the ball in rebounding situations as the Ducks were and their defense allowed UO to get downhill too often on the break. Certainly some things to build on though. But with next two games against USC and UCLA, I’m not betting on a 6-game winning streak.

I do agree that our inability or unwillingness to box out and our putrid 3 point shooting continue to kill us I agree that the boxing out is not great, but it’s not helping matters that we only have 1 guy over 6’9” and he can’t jump. They had 3 guys that played that were 6’11 or taller and they have another 7 footer on the bench that didn’t play. WT needs another big for next year, maybe 2 with Silva gone. Hopefully Chol will be eligible next year, but not having Andela is really hurting the rebounding this year. Andela is only 6’8”, but he’s thick and much better at boxing out that some of other guys.

Yes, Warith. FLUSH that G.D.thing. He wouldn’t have got it off in time if he tried to dunk it.

It would have been very close, but I don't think a person can say for sure either way. Particularly since the player knows the situation, so it wouldn't have been the typical emphatic dunk (which takes fractions of a second longer), but rather a quick push over the rim.

There was just over 1 second left when he caught it. Plus, he was surprised by it which put him off balance. He would have had to gather himself before going up for the dunk. I think being surprised is the reason that he missed it. Your not usually expecting the jump pass. He thought Jared was going to shoot it.

Not having Angela in the lineup is just killing this team. Any inside presence whatsoever would have probably changed the outcome of this game. Just got killed on the boards and hole guards were driving to the rack with very little resistance.

He was wide opened inside the box and waved for ball to be throw to him. Don’t remember if he was off balance. At least 3 defenders was on Lucas when he passed the ball instead of shoot for 3.

Yes, Lucas made the right play. Just not sure if Warith really expected it or he didn't catch it cleanly, but he certainly rushed the shot.

And lets be honest.....despite the great pass and the missed shot at the buzzer, Lucas' 0-8 from three pt land lost the game as much as anything we saw last night.

Yes the Beavs were outrebounded and while heighth was an issue in some situations I blame a lack of blocking out and just simply getting to the ball (quickness, effort). It just seemed that every ball that was shoulder high or hit the floor was grabbed by a duck.

If he dunks that, Warith at the end, you almost certainly have The refs review i. Leading to the potential of having the officials steal the game by saying it was in his hand when the horn goes off. That officiating was all over the map. Obviously I'm a Beavers fan....But i didn't think the officiating was very good.
Lucas bitched about getting called for a flop.. he was not good.... must have gotten in his head?
idk. You can see a good team on the floor at times, you know, when they play as a team. I still believe... but how many times do we say 'good loss', they're getting better, moving in the right direction?

Lucas really needs to stop falling over every time someone gets near him on his shot. I believe he’s been called for flopping in almost all of the last few games. Focus on making the shot and if your fouled let the refs call it . They may miss some, but it almost looks like Lucas falls away from contact a lot of the time. If he just went up normally for his shot, he might actually get more calls his way.

But with next two games against USC and UCLA, I’m not betting on a 6-game winning streak. Three previous years. And, we also won in 2016 and then proceeded to lose four of five. So, every time that we won the Civil War in Corvallis the previous five seasons, we ended up losing four-of-five. The only other team to lose the Corvallis Civil War was 2017, losing by 21. Rather than beat UCLA by four in overtime, like in 2021, Oregon State lost to California by five in Las Vegas. That was not my takeaway. That was my concluding thought, in order to try and put the loss into perspective. You certainly make a good point, though, especially, when you look back through the previous five seasons. Oregon State lost to both USC (by 13) and UCLA (by 5) last year. 2003 was the last time that Oregon State swept the Southern California schools down there. That team then turned around and lost the Corvallis Civil War in 2003 by 17. 1988 was the last time that Oregon State swept the Southern California schools down there and also beat Oregon in Corvallis. Good stuff in your post, otherwise.

If he just went up normally for his shot, he might actually get more calls his way. That's the first time that Lucas's had a flop warning called on him in the last five games. But yes, he was fouled on that shot, but not hard enough to fall like you got hit by a sniper. However, uo guys did the same thing twice and got both calls when neither one of them was touched.
