Dominant pitching, airtight defense and game-changing speed are the foundation of championship baseball. The gift of speed enables an infielder to extend his range. an outfielder to reach a ball in the gaps, a base runner to steal a base or take the extra base on a ball in play. Speed improves your odds with the hit and run, turning a sacrifice into a base hit and squeezing home a run when needed. Speed is one of the 5 basic tools of the game and a big reason Scouts carry stop-watches.
Looking at the 2022 class you might conclude there was an emphasis on speed in the recruitment of this class. Being able to recruit good baseball players that can run a sub-7 second 60 yard dash is big plus for a coach. Nine members of the 2022 Oregon State class run sub-7's in the all important 60 - the distance from 1B to 3B and from 2B to Home. Led by Gavin Turley's warp speed, nine Beaver recruits have recorded official 60 times in the 6's.

So.... two questoins.
Bazzana doesn't have a time or isn't in the 6.xx category?/
Forrester is a Sophmore. But if that is his time... impressive for 6 feet 206.
I love having the speedy guys in the lineup and to Pinch Run. It truly adds a dimension to the game putting pressure on the defense. Even a wild pitch partially blocked by the catcher goes from runner stays to runner advances. Lots of advantage to have that speed, unless of course you have MLB type power in your lineup... then you just sit on base waiting to jog around the bases.

Maybe they can shed some light on just how fast he is. And yes, thankfully we will have two Forresters next year. Bazzana flat out flies. Quite the study, spent many hours studying movement of the fastest humans and how to run. Involved a speed coach. Practiced and implemented, improving both quickness and speed. A student of the game and running. Corvallis knights game: Travis is on second, tie game, 3 hole hitter who is 2-2 on the day at the plate (he’s on his way to Corvallis also)….bunt and run Bazanna never stops at third and Scorsese’s the plate at the first baseman’s just gathering to make a throw home. Bazanna Was considered a second baseman, at 16 (15 maybe not certain on the story) playing 18U, because he had a weaker arm. Took the fall off, studied throwing and worked on his strength and motion. Added close to 15 MPH across the diamond in a few months. But he’s probably a 2 bagger or center fielder at OS, there’s still just bigger more physical dudes with better arms. |
