College sports will not die, just morph into a an NFL type G league of schools that will have boosters setting up big NIL funds. Those schools will probably end up in their own NC bowl "tourney". Big time schools and the wanna bes trying to keep up with the Jones's. What 30-40 schools?? The good news 95% of players aren't getting paid big $ in the NIL world. So, the rest of "us" can recreate an "NCAA" with policies and enforcement to get back to playing what college ball/athletics is supposed to be like. Or closer than what this NIL fiasco will lead to. Maybe 70-80 or so FBS schools with thebtop 40 or so FCS programs?? If the USFL gets going, then high schoolers can go straight to the USFL, like back in the 1980s. You cannot stop them. The NFL will have to adjust. And then colleges will have to adjust. Football is a dying sport. The NIL is just the lighter fluid that moves things along. College sports will not die, rest assured. But I still believe that football's days are numbered. Unless there is a huge overhaul, it will implode.

Safety and injury concerns were always the leading reasons. Participation is down. But, football isn't going anywhere in our lifetime. And, I'm hoping that's a long while for both of us!

I wonder if this NIL nonsense could be improved by adding some minimal qualifications before being eligible to receive NIL money. For example, one must play a full season, consisting of snaps in X% of the games, before you're eligible to receive NIL money.
If the idea is that people should be able to market their name, then there should be some basis for ensuring that name is marketable, and it certainly doesn't pass the smell test if somebody is making bank coming right out of high school as an unknown, or riding the pine their first few years.
If we're going to pay to play, at least make the player earn it with their play first, after earning playing time. And maybe more schools can afford to play the money game if it's just restricted to those players on the roster who are playing regularly.
I dunno, something has to be done here because where we're heading clearly isn't sustainable...

At some point in time at least some of those paying NIL fees to kids are gonna think twice after paying for kids who aren't playing or getting entangled with the law.
I think it'll be the wild wild west for a few years before it's all sorted out.

Who are you to decide to collude with others to restrict someone's pay? Would you want a group of companies getting together and deciding that jimbeav is only worth $50,000 a year, and no one can pay him more? wtf man, the Supreme court is going to have none of that idea. Justice Kavanaugh: Kavanaugh was particularly aggressive in his questioning of NCAA lawyers. “It does seem … schools are conspiring with competitors—agreeing with competitors, let’s say that—to pay no salaries for the workers who are making the school billions of dollars on the theory that consumers want the schools to pay their workers nothing,” Kavanaugh said during the March 31 proceedings. “And that just seems entirely circular and even somewhat disturbing.” and ""n his opinion, Kavanaugh seemed to invite more legal challenges to the NCAA’s caps on all forms of compensation for athletes, not just those tethered to education, which was the narrower focus of this particular Supreme Court case. “Nowhere else in America can businesses get away with agreeing not to pay their workers a fair market rate on the theory that their product is defined by not paying their workers a fair market rate,” Kavanaugh wrote. “And under ordinary principles of antitrust law, it is not evident why college sports should be any different. The NCAA is not above the law.”

I think it'll be the wild wild west for a few years before it's all sorted out. I'm not sure this will matter. It's not like the "bag man" of the past can "think twice" and they keep giving $ to get recruits on campus. We will see.

You need to get a President, Representative or Senator to pick this up and run with it. If you ran on a platform that included fixing the NIL issues, maybe that could help get you elected in a district that includes a school or a rabid fan base outside of the Deep South that does not want to have to pay millions to field a competitive team each year. So please contribute to my PAC. Together, we can fix this.
