We should be thinking about a contract extension.

Well, heās now our 3rd winningest coach of all time. And third losingest coach of all time by my count. So it's basically a longetivity stat, yay for him. Just means we have low expectations and keep s%#tty coaches too long. Not a Mike Riley fan either? s%#tty coaches donāt get you to an Elite 8

1. Slats Gill 2. Ralph Miller
What's your point?

Yes, Tinkle officially has the 3rd greatest win total and the 3rd greatest loss total in OSU history. Both are attributable to Tinkle having coached the 3rd most games and 3rd most seasons in OSU history. Only Tinkle, Miller, and Gill have coached more than 6 seasons at OSU. The media's term "winningest" means the greatest win total. Even the OSU media guide ranks MBB head coaches by win total so this must be meaningful to someone.
The winning percentage is the term that is most important in determining the relative competitiveness of a coach. With yesterday's nice win, Tinkle checks in at 0.494 putting him at 13th among the 22 OSU head coaches. That means that he has won 49% of the games he has coached in. Ten former OSU coaches won more than 60% of their games. On the brighter side Tinkle is 4th in winning percentage over the past 88 seasons at OSU, an indication of the lack of commitment to winning at OSU over a long period.
Tinkle is the perfect coach for OSU and I hope that we keep him for a long time to come.

3 - 10 and 1- 2 COTY? Low expectations indeed. Lol In most programs a 53-78 conference record would get you canned unfortunately here it gets you a. Multi-year extension. Hooray for low expectations.

Most programs didnāt make the Elite 8 last year. Well nothing's changing as far as his employment so comments about that issue is a waste of keystrokes. However most schools look at a body of work, not one year. And certainly stress conference results and recruiting. Both were huge strikes against another extension. Should have seen what this season looked like as the HS recruiting was again bad, and JC's are never a sure thing on the court or in the classroom. Especially when the bulk of the JC transfers boasted no significant stats nor importance to their former teams. Luckily Davis seems to have gained traction.

Thatās good, since Davis is the only āJCā transfer. I think both Taylor and Johnson have some potential. The problem is I think you need at least 2 HS recruits per year and you can potentially fill in the rest with transfers. 1 per year makes it tougher and you may reach for some guys to fill out the roster. As far as body of work, heās had one awful season and potentially a 2nd one this year. But heās also taken us to 2 tourney appearances when we hadnāt been in over 25 years. I would say itās a mixed bag.

I donāt like this train of discussion because, in the end It ALWAYS ends up being; ā what have you done for me lately ā consideration ! If you wait long enough , you will experience highs and lows with any program . Those programs that feast on wins are pretty quick to pull the trigger on contracts ( extensions , firings, etc. ) Those programs that are always āaverageā, pretty much are always looking for someone to push them over the stale performances .. but, there is no rush ! The ālong sufferingā teams like OSU- seem to fall into a category of ālosersā that only complain when the team has been a complete embarrassment to alumni and ticket holding fans. It is only then , and under extreme duress , that a firing / search drumbeat starts to make a difference ! IMO, I was done with WT- up until last year, when he seemed to finally learn that we were recruiting people besides coaches sons that had incredible athleticism to go with D1 potential. IMO, he has earned and learned his way to becoming a better coach and motivator. The team is fun to watch and I think we will continue to surprise some people. I am back to watching and hoping, and also pulling for Wayneā¦. cause, if he wins - we all win ! Go Beavers !
