Pouring down rain ... looks like maybe about a thousand people in the stands there ... geez (not that I am necessarily feeling sorry for BYU though lol)

UAB winning this bowl game probably did a lot of damage to the Pac-12 than people may realize. Remember, this is a BYU team who defeated half of the conference, including a win over conference champion Utah.

I didn't watch, but if I remember right, every time I've caught a snippet of the Independence bowl in the past, the turf looked like a really bad quilt with odd discolored patches.

UAB winning this bowl game probably did a lot of damage to the Pac-12 than people may realize. Remember, this is a BYU team who defeated half of the conference, including a win over conference champion Utah. Only five teams in the conference: Arizona by 8 in Tucson, Utah by 9 in Provo, Arizona State by 10 in Provo, Wazzu by 2 in Pullman and USC by 4 in the Coliseum. BYU also beat Utah State by 14 in Logan. BYU also beat Virginia (which finished tied for sixth in the ACC) by 17 in Provo. UAB finished third in Conference USA and was basically playing a home game in the rain. BYU's bowl contract has them playing in Shreveport every odd year (against a Pac-12 team in 2023, if the Pac-12 qualifies that many teams) and an ESPN Events Bowl every even year. Except that BYU can opt out of the ESPN Events Bowl or Independence once every six year cycle and into the Cheez-It Bowl. And all of that is hilariously terrible. BYU finished #13 in the final CFP. Every one of the top 12 teams went to a Selection Committee Bowl Game. To finish one spot outside of a Selection Committee Bowl Game and tumble all of the way down to play Conference USA #3 has got to be a tough pill to swallow. Much like being eligible to play in the Las Vegas Bowl against Wisconsin on the 30th and instead playing in the LA Bowl against Utah State on the 18th, I can't imagine that BYU was all that motivated, and a much more motivated UAB beat 'em. Just like a much more motivated Utah State beat Oregon State.

There were zero fans there anyway.....but Shreveport is a good 6-7 hours away from Birmingham.
