I like the schedule. Decent non conf, but nothing too crazy. And I much prefer the years when we get hole, furd, UCLA, and ASU at home

But, I do know the bats will have to be much more prominent for this version of OSU baseball to be a conference threat if the Pac12 holds serve to it's usual level of play. A 16-14 type record might require a couple wins in the Pac12 tourney to advance. However, big showings by other Pac12 teams in NC games, plus reputation lends to 5+ teams invited. It'd be a grave disappointment if OSU is not in the top 5.

Melton, Forrester, Dukart, Gretler, Meckler, Boyd, Dernedde.....another year under their belts. Hopefully these guys are ready to take it to the next level. I've heard Myro could be playing SS.....I don't know a lot about him though.

Travis was outstanding but I think folks are a bit over their skis on their expectations. WCL has been down for a while. It's not the same level of competition as many other leagues. I think it was rated well outside the top 10 in the summer of '21. That said Travis will be an upgrade to the lineup that needs an offense to matchup/support the defensive/pitching.

Bazzana - Looking forward to having good production from (middle?) infielder. re: WCL, it can be all over the map - Dernedde had 8 hits in 62 AB, with 32 SO, in WCL 2021. The #1 ranked 2021 Oregon H.S. player (an incoming Beav.) was 6 for 35 at the plate in WCL. His Beav. WCL teammates, Fuchs (hit .311) and Gavin Logan (hit .307).

I'm basing this on what I've been told by a credible source. I guess we shall see. As for the other guys, theres good bats there. I think Gretler the younger is one to watch. He came on last year. Pretty pumped to see what Forrester can do as well. Lots of potential in his bat.

Looking at the 2022 schedule, the March 18-20 series in Corvallis v ASU jumps out. It'll be the first PAC-12 home series for the Beavs. Those 3 games will be the 19th to 21st games of the season for ASU, and true to their usual pattern, it'll be their first games of the season north of Phoenix or Southern California. Of their first 18 games, 14 are in Phoenix.
I lurk on the Devils Dugout chat board, and though they are ecstatic to be rid of Tracy Smith (for the never-coached-before Willie Bloomquist - not even one game, at any level), their chief worry is pitching staff. One poster suggested a Fri-Sat-Sun starting group that went:
- Boyd Vander Kooi as Friday Night (he pitched 0.2 innings in 2021, due to injury....he's only pitched 26 innings since 2019) - Kai Murphy (yep!) for Saturday - he pitched 16 innings last season...pretty well. - Luckham for Sunday (transfer from Cal State Fullerton, where he had a 5.25 ERA last season).

If watching the beaver baseball team play in Surprise has you feeling too good, the Beavers men’s basketball team plays in Tempe on Saturday night the 20th.

A little Bee in your Bonnet.
The negotiations between MLB and the Players Union are not going well. There is some speculation that spring training could be pushed back weeks if not longer.
With the Rangers and Royals "locked out" in Surprise, our daily starting times (some if not all 7) could be changed. This might alter your plans for the day.

Feb. 26 is the only OSU game shared date (as currently scheduled), with MLB spring training. Rangers-Royals at 1pm, and Beavs with their final Xavier game at 5 pm. It does seem unlikely that the MLB game will occur, so that would be the leading candidate for a time shift.

That would be Saturday night on the 19th actually. But COVID has screwed with the schedule so much already maybe the date will change after all. lol
