I still think we scored the golden goal in the first few minutes of OT. Don’t believe that was a foul.
Gotta hand it to Clemson, though. They sure could get the fouls called against us.

This is why I can't get behind soccer.
One team dominates the run of play. A couple of terrible flops and ridiculous terrible calls by refs. Poof, wrong team wins the game.
What a joke.

And I hate this announcer. Ann was our good luck charm. When I tuned in and heard Rich Burke I was hoping it wasn’t a bad omen. I like her. Sure she’s over the top, but I like it.

Their PK was merited, but an unnecessary foul. Fernandez had the shot covered, no need for the guy to be pulled down.
No foul on our OT goal, two players fighting for the ball, the better man won and scored. Total BS.

The real problem is that the field ref isn’t always in position to make the correct call. Like the terrible yellow card against Lund. They need a team. And/or replay.

Does making it to the Elite Eight mean that we’re gonna suck at soccer next year too? Is it a Beaver thing to have a dream season and then fall completely apart?

How they stop that is beyond me, but it seems pretty obvious and yet gets the calls. Our OT goal that was wiped off the board was started by their defender pushing our guy into their other defender, and he still got the shot off. THAT should have been a PK if their PK was legit. One difference being that our guy didn't fold like a cheap seat. Wrong team won this game. Ref should be demoted, and embarrassed.

Beavs totally dominated in the first half. The second half was far more even though, and we were (seemingly) less aggressive. But it really looked like Lady Luck wasn’t on our side tonight. We had a ton of opportunities that were just off. The goal in OT was a beauty and to have it waved off really hurt. But Clemson played us much better in the second half and the OT periods. They fought hard, got the call they needed, and put the ball away. Then they nailed their PKs.

Even our goal didn't hit the back of the net. I won't blame the refs. Fernandez wasn't able to make one save in PK's (one went right underneath him). That's why we lost. I think our limited depth hurt us a little too. 10 of our starting 11 went 100+ minutes. 5 of our 10 field players went 110. Multiple players were cramping up at the end.

Flopping likely is what draws attention to the foul. The refs see that and may only have a glimpse of what happens. It happens fast. I do not like the flopping but not sure what to do about it. I cringe when we dunk around with the ball near our goalie. I also cannot criticize the goal we lost. Bottom line our foul in penalty kick area was unnecessary. That foul at 85 minute cost us the game.Their goalie stopped 2 penalty kicks. We stopped none. Very disappointed but that team was good. We were good too and they will be good for many years.

I appreciate that some of you are looking to rise above the bad calls and simply take the loss in stride. I'm fine with that, and DAM proud of what this team accomplished. Several firsts for any OSU team, and I think this isn't the last we've heard from them.
I just am not going to agree that the game should have gone to PKs in the first place. At all. I disagree strongly with the first call for the PK - their guy initiated the contact into the back of our defender and went to ground WAY too easy, and was immediately crying for a foul while he was sliding on the ground. Total flop, and I guess the ref felt sorry for Clemson.
Not to be outdone, the call against us that wiped off the game winner was one of the worst calls I've seen in a long time. Clear as day flop by Clemson defender, AFTER our guy got pushed into him by other Clemson defender. And yeah, where is VAR in a game like this?
OSU DID do everything they needed to do to win the game, and the ref decided otherwise. Take the loss and move on? Sure, what other choice do we have? But, why apologize for this ref? Dude shouldn't work another game of this magnitude again IMO.

I will be honest I rarely am interested in soccer. The only reason I have cared a bit this year is the Beavs have a very good team. However, flailing on the field as if your leg was amputated without anesthesia is just too much. And it happens on whatever teams are playing. For that reason alone its unwatchable.

Since I didn’t see the game live, I can’t add to the discussion. I’ve dreaded that the Beavs would get eliminated by PKs when the tournament started, and it happened. Two other quarterfinal matches went PK to end, and Pittsburgh and West Virginia know what it’s like. Now, maybe we can get an Oregon State firm developed.
