Bo Pelini. Shouldn't have got rid of him to begin with. He never won fewer than 9 games and that wasn't good enough. I mean, I'm aware he's a prick, but he was the best they had for a long time.

If Riley had just ditched banker and his pre-spread D before going there, he would still be coach there IMHO.

So Nebraska lost to Iowa today and finishes 3 - 9 . I bet the children of the corn have a pretty hot seat for Frost to warm himself from the frigid Nebraska winter air He was extended. Adjusted his contract. Next year is the show me year. Frost is their boy so one more chance/year. Nebraska is mediocrity eternal. Lead by a mediocre coach.

Gotta go back to 2010 to find a ranking that high or higher. He was rewarded with the AD forcing Riley to fire him for Diaco, who not only took Nebraska’s D to a 101 ranking but has managed to get himself canned at 4-5 schools since. Banker was not a problem.

For those that don't recall Scott Frost went to school at Nebraska and was a great QB there. The last two years there he led the team to a 24-2 record.
So the moral of the story is some think because you were a star player for a team that you played for that you have a job for life there. You are only as good as your win loss record regardless. End of story.

Nebraska went 1-8 in conference but has a total scoring margins of 0. That would be pretty funny except that looks like our MBB team so far.

It’s crazy to me that some people still can’t see that Riley ran both this program and Nebraska into the ground, leaving both in ashes. Both programs made a hiring mistake afterward that led to continued misery, but Mike Riley is the common thread.

You must have missed the 28 losing seasons period. Andersen left the team in ashes, not Riley.

Plus he was uber loyal to his coaches, which can be a great thing too. Riley was a great coach in his era, had he got his start as a college HC in late 80s I think we are talking about a legend. Edit...he is a legend at OSU and to some degree Pac 10...but never winning the conference and playing in Rose Bowl is a bugaboo on his resume

He's not going anywhere. Frost's buyout is $15 million, which is why the previous AD was fired.

Why stop there? Go with Frank Solich. Same 10 win seasons without the total A-hole component. He’s available after retiring from his 2nd HC job at Ohio U! And he’s only 77! Solich's 58 wins during his first six seasons as Nebraska's head coach exceeded those of his predecessors, Bob Devaney (53 wins) and Osborne (55 wins), both of whom are in the College Football Hall of Fame.[2]
