Several former OSU players have coached with the Okotoks Dawgs. Linn-Benton's HC Andy Peterson and former Beaver staffer, Tyler Graham come to mind. I think they laid a lot of the groundwork for OSU to recruit the Okotoks Baseball Academy age group teams. It's a strong program that draws players from other Provinces ouside of Alberta. The Okotoks Baseball Academy fields teams in all age groups through 18u before playing on the Okotoks Dawgs big team that is primarily made up of Canadian and U.S. college players. The Dawgs compete in the Western Canadian Baseball League against teams from Alberta and British Columbia.
The Dawgs had one secondary school player on the 2021 team that will return in 2022. Highly unusual but then he is the left handed slugging 220 pound Ty Doucette, like Micah McDowell, a native of Nova Scotia (son of a former pro) and a member of the Oregon State recruiting class of 2023. When Ty Doucette comes to the yard at Goss in the fall of 2023, he will have seen about 150 games worth of college level pitching.
Actually, the pipeline is better than than 6 in 6 years. Micah McDowell, Cesar Valero-Sanchez, Richie Mascarenas, Gavin Logan, Conor Pote, Ty Doucette and Leo Cote makes seven. In the summer of 2017, following his graduation from Norcross, GA HS, OSU's Darius Foster played for the Dawgs. Foster spent one year at OSU, then transferred to the University of San Francisco.
There is a mutual respect between the Okotoks baseball machine and the Oregonn State Beavers. The door is open, we have access.
