Well Conforto could learn a lot from Freeman. Considering Conforto best season of .257/33/92 is only slightly better than Freeman's worst season of .259/23/94. After that, Freeman averages .298/28/97 and Conforto averages .255/28/85. Freeman has an MVP, World series trophy, 5 time all star and a Gold glove. Conforto is a one time all star. I think he would be lucky to have the opportunity to play with Freeman. And, "I'd be a bit uncomfortable"?? WTH?? What does a poster's comfort level have anything to do with MC's being mentored or not?? Very weird take since almost every player hits up teammates and colleagues on other teams for tips, workouts, etc. Many train together in the off season. Anyway... Mea Culpa! My post included: a). a silly choice of words ("uncomfortable") b.) that aside, a really dumb 'take' in general. Just plain WRONG!!

A good portion of his 232. batting average last year could be attributed to coming back too quickly after injury. He was better toward the end of the season. He is young enough, good enough and probably has enough money in the bank to go wherever he wants. Great situation to be in. Selfishly, I hope he lands somewhere west of the Rockies so it would be more reasonable to go to some of his games.

"Thumbs up" not for your admission, but for the mature/calm demeanor in your response. All posts should be welcome. Except those berating other posters. And, my post could certainly border on being disparaging. I certainly could have chosen better verbiage to relay my thoughts. Go Beavs!

I just read the White Sox might target Conforto.

The Mets just signed Scherzer. Conforto should have stayed. The Mets are going to be much better in 2022.

If he gets more on the open market, then bravo for him. But chances are he won't play for a team with an ace as good as Scherzer.

But 1 year instead of multiple(3, 4, 5) probably makes a difference. We shall see.

Not in the position to make such a call, but I could easily be swayed to go 3-4 years at say $12 mil (mostly guaranteed) vs one year at $18.4 mil and have to go thru the whole thing again.

I absolutely love Scherzer, but deGrom isn't exactly a bum. Honestly I feel like 95% of the time it's all about the # of years and guaranteed money. 95 might be too low.

deGrom isn't a bum, by any means. But Scherzer gets the ball every five days. deGrom can't always do that.
And it's always about the money. Any player who tells you otherwise is lying.

I'm not saying this is the year that Scherzer starts downhill, but 38 year old pitchers more typically fall off the cliff then they steadily decline. And Scherzer didn't help LA during the NLCS all that much this season......

And Scherzer didn't help LA during the NLCS all that much this season...... It's the Mets. Of course it's a bad deal... for them. They so could have allocated that $130 mil so much better than a guy who will drop off and is on the field every 5th day. They lose two key guys off the mound then overreact/overspend for him! Plus had trouble even finding a willing body to be their GM. Again, MC should be grateful to be headed out of that mess. Other than his fan support he'll not miss it.
