Michael Conforto will reject the NY Mets qualifying offer of a 1 year $18,400,000 contract, according to MLB inside sources. If he decides to sign with another team, the Mets would be compensated with an early draft pick. MC entered the season with talk of a contract exrension but a down year of .232/ .344/ .384, 14 Homers and 55 RBI, dampened the possibility of that happening. It didn't help that the Mets signed a 10 year, $341m deal with Francisco Lindor that put a wee strain on their financial resources.
MC has accumulated the 15th best WAR among all MLB outfielders since 2017.

I'm sort of surprised. He seemed to like NY, Citi Field was good for him.
He had a good second half after the terrible first half. Please avoid the Mariners. Safeco is death on hitters. I'd love to see him go to the Cubs.

It's a shame he and the Mets couldn't agree on a contract extension during last offseason while his stock was high. Some rumors of him signing with the Mariners, but I don't see it with Kelenic, Lewis, and JRod in the pipeline. NY Post predicting Phillies at six years $140 million, but it seems high given he's about to turn 29 and has 16 bWAR in 7 seasons.

Must suck to have a mediocre year and be offered 18.4 million.

I hope he comes to Atlanta. My Braves won it all so I'm cool for awhile, and would love to have a Beav to root for.
Plus he could study under Freeman. Pretty nice lefty with power to all fields to learn from.

Good for him. Find a team that’s on the rise and help them win a pennant.

Pretty nice lefty with power to all fields to learn from. I'm a bit uncomfortable with the notion of a 28 year old, former MLB all-star, 7 year MLB vet, with 2551 MLB AB's, "studying" under a 32 year old MLB vet...... Then again, didn't sorta veteran Matty Alou, once he was traded to the Pirates, "study" under Roberto Clemente...leading to an Alou batting title?

That’s sick.

That’s sick. It's difficult to grasp the meaning of your comment. No mention or thought of Clemente's terrible demise was intended re: the Alou reference. Roberto and Matty shared the outfield for 5 full seasons in Pittsburgh during which time Alou averaged north of .325. By the time Roberto gave his life for those suffering in Nicaragua, Matty had moved on to the Cardinals and to the A's.

Considering Conforto best season of .257/33/92 is only slightly better than Freeman's worst season of .259/23/94. After that, Freeman averages .298/28/97 and Conforto averages .255/28/85. Freeman has an MVP, World series trophy, 5 time all star and a Gold glove. Conforto is a one time all star. I think he would be lucky to have the opportunity to play with Freeman.

And, "I'd be a bit uncomfortable"?? WTH?? What does a poster's comfort level have anything to do with MC's being mentored or not?? Very weird take since almost every player hits up teammates and colleagues on other teams for tips, workouts, etc. Many train together in the off season. Anyway...

Could Conforto's move be also a wait and see what the new CBA will be?
