Both Oregon and Arizona played last week (Cal played tonight, but I haven't checked that yet). Some thoughts/stats from their games: Arizona beat Eastern New Mexico 84-25. Can you tell anything from playing an opponent like that? I don't know, but here goes. Lauren Ware started and played the most minutes (19) with 7 points Taylor Chavez played 16 minutes and hit 4 3's Madison Conner, their 2nd year freshman that left High School early to play last year, played 13 minutes and had 14 shots....yes, 14 shots, but only 12 points. Oregonian Aaronette Vonleh, whom the Beavs didn't seem interested in, played 12 minutes and ended up with 6pts and 4 rebounds. Anna Gret Asi, a player I wanted to see the Beavs recruit, played 14 minutes with 4 pts Koi Love, Vanderbilt transfer who averaged 20.8 points and 9.5 boards in only 8 games last season only played 5 minutes.?? 6' 3" transfer from Alabama, Ariyah Copeland played 15 minutes, shot 5-5, and had 11pts and 6 rebounds. Ariyah has 16 career double doubles, and shot 60% from the field last year for Alabama.
Oregon beat Saint Martins 93-26....again, can you tell anything from a game like that? The ducks did start 3 players who could be considered point guards, PaoPao, Rogers, and Scherr. PaoPao had 22 points and Rogers added 17. 6'8" freshman center Phillipina Kyei, came off the bench for 5 pts and 7 boards Chanaya Pinto played 17 minutes and had 10 points on 3-4 shooting and added 6 boards. Kylee Watson played 18 minutes and had 3pts and tied for a team high 7 boards.
Again, very weak opponents, but still interesting to see who played and who preformed well. Looking forward to the Beavs this week.
