This is almost an Andy Levitre body rebuild. Jelena was not obese, but she looks downright skinny.

"skinny"?
How about "lean and mean," or "athletic." Take a look at those legs. She's serious. GO BEAVS!!

Dying to see her and the rest on the court, can't get to Corvallis, any noise about them streaming ?, so far 3 other Pac-12 teams are streaming their first games, USC, U of Zero and Cal.
If she is just noticeably better in speed and agility, I'm happy, beyond that is a bonus.

And still a Freshman. I would be surprised to see her play the full 4 years (including this one.) No real reason, just my gut. I fully expect her to be a key player this season. Her skills have always been there. Just needed conditioning to go with them. Looks like maybe she has it. Jelena, Taylor, Kennedy, and Taya up front is going to be really good.

Actually she needed to be healthy so she could work on the conditioning. If Rueck is able to spin his Magic on her and she is able to see continual improvement she may very well stay here for her four seasons.

With Taylor and Kennedy in the mix, and Raegan on her way, the Beavs are loading up on bigs the way the ducks are loading up on point guards. Jelena may reach the point where she is too good to stay even a couple more years. She could start now for a number of programs.

Jelena looks physically better, but we'll see how it translates to mobility outside the paint. Great asset in the paint playing zone or m2m vs back to the hoop post. But, liability vs posts with a midrange and out game. However, the ucks are plenty big and balanced. More size than I realized before looking. F/C as listed - 6'5", 6'2" (Sr), 6'2"(Sr), 6'1", 6'4", 6'7", 6'8". Commits Van Slooten 6'3", Basham 6'7" While Furd is far smaller than I thought with only Brink and Prechtel(?) at 6'4" and 6'5".

She is playing for and learning from one of the better post coaches in the country. Not likely she will be able to find a better one to learn from. Ruth and Marie both became significantly better players in their third and fourth years, there is no reason to think that the same improvement can't be made by Jelena.
I'm not ready to say that she won't be able to find playing time here, she could very well be that good. We have yet to see her play without being injured. Her coaches and teammates, current and past, seem to think she has skills to offer the team.

Playing the 3 requires her to play the wing near the 3 point line and guard a much smaller player. SR must feel she has the athletic ability.

SR must feel she has the athletic ability. Are you sure it wasn't Taylor at the 5, Jalena at the 4, and Kennedy at the 3? I just don’t see this happening, either way. Unless Brown improved dramatically, she would be our weakest option as a deep threat at 3, and take her out of position for offensive rebounds. Jelena at 4 puts her in position to feed the post and cutters, and hit mid-range shots - she could feed Taylor well, but Brown spotting up ot slashing isn’t our best option there by far. Taylor or Jelena will struggle to defend any 3-4s that can shoot and slash, and many teams have such players at their 4, and most definitely at the 3. If I was an opposing coach, I’d love to see this lineup over most other options this team has - I’d invite Brown and Jelena to beat us from outside and try to keep it a one shot possession. With Taya or Mack at the 3, I cannot invite them to shoot from deep, and Brown plus Taylor crashing offensive boards is a nightmare - Jelena crashing in for offensive boards is just not the same level of concern, unless she suddenly developed faster-twitch muscles. It would be a very unique game situation to see these three on the floor together, IMO.

I agree that it's hard to see all three of them playing at the same time. I believe Jelena will primarily continue to serve as a backup to Taylor at the five spot. And Kennedy will primarily play the four spot.

She makes Jovana, Taylor, and Kennedy look short in this pic.

She makes Jovana, Taylor, and Kennedy look short in this pic. In spite of not standing entirely straight up. It wouldn’t surprise me if Jelena’s listed height of 6’-9” might be a touch on the modest side.
