NCAA allows teams a closed scrimmage every year against another opponent. Anyone know who we might be playing this year?

I think Montana State next weekend, but I’m not 100%. Should be a solid exhibition opponent.

It would be a real shame if an OSU/Gonzaga matchup, which many of us have hoped would be an annual thing, finally came about and it was a closed scrimmage.

The secrecy is required by the NCAA. Unless the rules have changed, it was always that teams get two exhibitions (either vs. DI schools [games must be private] or vs. DII or DIII schools [games may be public]). If that rule still stands, Oregon using both of theirs against non-DI schools, while Oregon State will play one DI and one non-DI. It was reported a few years back that OSU played Texas Tech, Florida, and TCU in consecutive years in Colorado Springs. I think it was two DII squads in 19-20 and I believe it was Weber State last season.

Hmm… Isn’t this a violation of the rules on these closed scrimmages? If not, I sure hope we get some video from our “closed” scrimmage.

Bylaw 17.4.5.6 Practice Scrimmage. An informal practice scrimmage with outside competition, provided it is conducted in privacy and without publicity or official scoring. Individuals other than athletics department staff members and those necessary to conduct a basketball practice scrimmage against outside competition may not be present during such a scrimmage. The institution shall ensure that the scrimmage is free from public view. No class time shall be missed by basketball student-athletes in conjunction with such a scrimmage, including all associated activities (e.g., travel, pregame and postgame activities). An institution may exempt two such practice scrimmages during any year in which it does not use the exemption set forth in Bylaw 17.4.5.6-(g), or it may exempt one such practice scrimmage and one exhibition contest against a non-NCAA Division I four-year collegiate institution each year.

Is it assumed that the Beavs played a practice scrimmage over the weekend? It pretty much would've to have been on Saturday if, as the Bylaw written above says, players cannot miss any classes in order to participate in this kind of scrimmage. Exactly how USC could post a photo of their scrimmage with UNLV and not call it publicity is not clear. For me, it's more of a curiosity deal than anything else as I have the feeling Rueck would use a scrimmage like this to learn about his unproven players more than trying to put together a convincing win..... At any rate, maybe somebody somewhere has a tidbit of info they will share on this topic!!🏀 GO BEAVS!!

The UO practice scrimmage was in the Oregonian last week. That (St. Martin's) was an Exhibition game, not a practice game. It is on their official schedule.
