Hey, Glove, can anything be done about crap like the above? I'm sure I'm not the only one who comes on this board looking for insights and information on women's hoops, not to read 2 people acting like 8 year olds.

Hmmm, can you include the nonstop political and religion talk too? I was told before joining that was banned here. Seems like Covid erased that? Or was it ever so? Actually I would be all for banning anything related to COVID which seems to pop up on many threads because it ultimately turns political. We pretty much know where sports and how it relates to COVID. No need to rehash COVID over and over.
BTW, Judge Smails brings up good points and perspectives.

I'm on a few sports boards, and this one is usually (and thankfully) the most civil of the bunch.

Speaking of conversations I don't want to have on this board. Can someone tell help me out with 'blocking' another poster. When blocking someone here, you are given options. I chose a couple choices from the options and blocked someone. As it turns out, that didn't accomplish what I wanted. Now, when I try to go back and edit the block it won't let me. It only gives me the option of sending the blocked person a message, or sending them a gift. Um, I want to block someone. I don't want to send them a gift! What am I doing wrong? Hey maybe I would even unblock them, but it doesn't give me that option.

I'm on a few sports boards, and this one is usually (and thankfully) the most civil of the bunch. But occasionally, it's not. I'm not sure on the other boards and "civility", but really no complaint here on that level. First, it's just anonymous "words" and as in many cases opinion. Sometimes highly uneducated opinion, but message boards are what they are. But, this is a "sport/athletic" board, specifically focused on Oregon State University. I am not a moderator, nor ever want to be, but the extraneous crap takes away from the board's true intent (I think as I'm not the creator). Of course, as with societal influences of "today", folks here tend to rationalize/justify many of these posts as being OSU related. They are not and only serve for the anonymous venting of frustrations or attempting to enlighten all of us other pagans. It borders on the ridiculous at times as posters assume others can't glean whatever info they want just as they can. We all realize posters (people in general) tend to find information that reinforces their predetermined mindset. Great, but no need to feel like you have to share it and think you're changing minds here. We're all big boys and girls, and we can research and support our own ideals. If posters want to go down the Covid, political, or religious rabbit holes find a board specific to those topics. On the other side of the coin, I greatly appreciate the "research" shared concerning athletics, OSU specifically. I don't have time nor want to spend hours researching or spend $ having subscriptions to other sites (especially if they are worse than this one in some areas). Personally, recruiting, class rankings, etc are of no interest. But, they are there if I want to read up. Anyway, long-winded response, but I appreciate the true intent of this board I wish others would respect that aspect a bit more as it's an impossible gig to go delete all the nonsense posts and then the replies to them. What I like about this board is that several members locate, and then post, interesting articles and other items of information that I simply would never locate on my own. That's a good thing.
Also, several members are close to the program and provide us with information that is not available in the print media.
Also, several members have recruiting information and insight about OSU that is really impressive.
Also, almost everyone has a serious commitment to, and belief in, the OSU WBB program....These are all good things.
All in all, I'd definitely say "Two thumbs up."

Please ignore the stuff; posts and posters you don’t like. Responding or quoting just prolongs it. I don’t know if there is an ignore feature. My interface is different. Try the ProBoards support site. There is an ignore feature and it works fine. The only time I see posts from certain members is when they are quoted and I can easily use my internal ignore feature for those times. |
