I guess in hindsight, we should have had a cue that GAG didn't understand OSU or Corvallis when he uttered "get our dux in a row" during his introductory presser. He seemed befuddled when a low murmur reverberated from the crowd......."what did I say?" Go Beavs!! OMG I forgot about that! No s%#t! How clueless can you be?! I think he thought he was coming to a hayseed town with low expectations and he could have similar success as he had at Utah St....or if he had mediocre returns no biggie, right?.....what a gomer!

them Then why did he run to the Chargers and Nebbie? He went to the Chargers to see if he could coach at the highest level. He was here for 11 years the 2nd time and could have left way earlier if he was chasing money. 1998 - I think he went from 250K to 750K. I don't know if Mitch B countered with something, but you dont walk away from a 300% pay increase.

Riley was running towards the money? He was one of the lower paid coaches in the league and had numerous chances to leave for more money. Riley has never been about the money. He was just pissed that he was being pressured to fire his assistants. them Then why did he run to the Chargers and Nebbie? For the same reason Dennis Erickson left Idaho, Wyoming, Washington State, Miami, Oregon State and Idaho again. For a better job and for more money. You know, like about 99% of employees who change jobs during their professional careers.

Initially , GAG assistant coaches looked like an upgrade over the mish - mash that Riley had going on ( I was particularly excited about Siitake - however, he was already looking for his next promotion to 'anywhere' U ). Maybe the observations regarding BDC are partially or fully correct ( no money for coaches or assistants ), however , that just shows me that Riley was NEVER running the football program - he was 'running' towards the money , which he continues to do today. You could see in his actions, and his demeanor, that he took his sour attitude out on both the team and the University. So, BDC and his ex player advisory council , went after the bright shiny object of the day ( without doing appropriate full vetting ). I don't begrudge the individuals going after what they want / need, but, I see major shortcomings in character and discipline that created the last years of Rileys coaching 'expertise' and the rapid fire hiring and departure of GAG . Throw BDC in there, along with the GAG search group. I am pleased that we now, at least, seem to be working to a plan with a head coach that has an actual plan and that takes care of his assistants . Pretty typical of OSU AD over the years. Lots of missteps going back to Andros Milton sitch/Rich Brooks/jimmy Anderson/Wagner/GAG..etc I feel like Barnes is somewhat in tune with what needs to be done to achieve success in Corvallis. Smith and Canham, imo, were great hires....two OSU heroes who also have top tier leadership qualities. They are invested in Corvallis, and obviously know the culture. +1 "They are invested in Corvallis, and obviously know the culture."
