It's very quiet on Casey's Corner right now as we creep through the fall practice period and await the new season and the Desert air of Surprise. The only thing missing on this board right now is the smell of embalming fluid. For fun, we can massage some numbers. In the last 9 recruiting classes, from 2014 through the 2022 class that will ink their NLOI's in November, Oregon State's recruiting base has been primarily the I-5 corridor from Bellingham on the north to San Diego on the south. A whopping 77% of all Beaver recruits are from the states of Washington - Oregon - California. Oregon is the most productive state with 30% of our recruits coming from in-state. The trend over the last 5 classes however, has California slowly closing the gap and by signing day for the 2025 class, California is likely to lead Oregon as our largest happy hunting ground for baseball talent. The balance of our recruits (23%), have come from 14 states and 2 foreign countries, Canada and Australia. The secondary states where we have been succesful are Arizona, Nevada and Canada's British Columbia and Alberta Provinces. Recently we have reached into Wisconsin for 3 prospects in Zach Clayton, Nathan Burns and Evan Gustavson and Missouri for Victor Quinn. A strongrer presence in the midwest and possibly Texas might be something we see if the national reach is extended. A third paid assistant coach and an increased number of schollies might make that a reality. Oregon State Baseball certainly has the brand and name recognition for an extension of national recruiting.
