Just an amazing turnaround. I really thought 2020 was going to be the breakout year for women's soccer. 2018 - the team went 2-17 (1-10) and were outscored 6-54 on the season - the positive being that 4 of our 6 goals were scored by Freshmen, and only 1 of the top 14 players in minutes was a senior. 2019 was a great turnaround, going 11-6-2 (3-6-2) and we outscored opponents 31-19 - even though 6 players who had played significant minutes in 2018 and still had eligibility did not return (house cleaning? IDK). 13 players had over 700 minutes, and only 2 were seniors. 26 of those 31 goals belonged to players with eligibility. 2020 I figured would be the next step. All 11 of those eligible players returned, but 4-11 (2-9) was the result. Outscored 19-28. 2021, so far has been pretty good, even though 2 of our top goal scorers from 18-20 transferred to UW and WSU with their 13 and 11 career goals. True Freshman McKenna Martinez has 6 goals and 4 assists. The bulk of our scoring is from ladies who were FR/Sophs in 2020, or are true frosh this year - not sure how that eligibility counts in women's soccer, but I assume 2020 didn't count. Either way, the lion's share of goals are eligible to return 2022. I know nothing of this team beyond what I've read in the box scores, but again, the future looks even brighter than the present.
