I mean, at least after these last 2 games we understand how Noyer won the job in camp. After the first 4 games lots of people were thinking "how did Chance not win the job in camp?" I would have rather still been questioning our staff's competency, than have Nolan show us his flaws. I'd like to point back to that USC tweet about how USC had some 46 odd 4* or higher ranked players on their team to OSU's 7. basically same story with Washington. Our staff absolutely is doing a tremendous job. No question about it. The hole we were in cannot be understated and it will take time to get better talent to look at OSU. the transfers we are getting and the new recruits get better every year. There is no question OSU landed the right guy. People put the cart WAY out in front of the horse after USC and UW, despite a couple red flags in that UW game. We continue to show we are an improving team all around, but we have to keep having patiences. OSU is not a "Have" school. We do not have the legacy, the money, the reputation, the... anything a lot of other schools have. We just spent about 3 years being a national laughing stock. The fact we are so grumpy about being 4-2 really shows you how far this staff has taken us. 100% agree that Coach Smith is the guy for us. Much the same as I always felt Riley was the guy for us. Simply put, winning brings expectations of more winning so that cycle is always there and any time we falter it's a let down. As stated by pretty much everyone, "if you told me at the beginning of the season we'd be 4-2 I'd be ecstatic" but if you told me when we were 4-1 that we'd be 4-2 I'd be disappointed. Hard for people to see the big picture while it's happening. Bowl game was always the goal this year (even though outsider media still had us as 5th/6th in the north). As long as we make a bowl game this year, I've see enough every Saturday in terms of competitiveness, talent, and coaching to feel like we will be back to where I expect us to be. Which is bowl game most years, 8-10 wins every couple of years and maybe we pop once a decade. I would just really hate for us to ignore what Smith has accomplished so far and act like the program growth should be exponential rather than a meandering path once we are back to a baseline level of competitiveness.

But wasn’t he one of the top rated JUCO QB’s? At least one site had Chance Nolan as the #1 JUCO quarterback. Nolan looks super-talented but still needing work. That is probably why Noyer got the first start. Noyer starts, and they work to perfect Nolan with Nolan maybe taking over after the bye. And then, Noyer looked like garbage and they went with a more talented but not really 100% ready for primetime Nolan. To me, Nolan just looks inconsistent. Some throws are behind the receiver. Some are long. Some are short. He does not look like he has the arm strength to hit the downfield passes consistently and then simultaneously looks like he is not following through right to hit those short passes all of the time. When he is on, he can be electric. When he is not, it really shows. Maybe it comes down to a judgement call on what is catchable or a drop... but I believe if you could ask both TE, they each had a drop. Watching it live, I put the blame on the TEs... not Nolan. And I'm not here to defend Nolan... I'm joining the group of wondering what other options we have but to be fair it felt like a offensive team issue not getting the passes completed last Saturday. Everyone gets part of the blame. I can add this... if our TEs want to play on Sundays they have to make those catches.

I can't blame Quintoriano on his "drop". It was so out of reach I was amazed he could touch it and bobble it. That one was on Nolan.
The pass to Musgrave I'm remembering was a little behind but not outrageously behind. Perfect passes dont happen every play. I'd prefer to blame nobody, but it was a catchable ball in my opinion.
I'm still not blaming Nolan. Lots of QBs are off target when under pressure and nobody open, even in the NFL... see it every weekend.

Overall, I think Smith's Beaver teams have made adjustments when needed......you know, like the opposite of GAG's Beaver teams. I'd imagine the bye week will be put to good use. I'm really hoping Nolan can get his confidence up, cuz it affects everything when ur QB is out of sorts.....and maybe Gebbia is getting close??

I think Gebbia being healthy and a legit option could make for some QB controversy. I want the kid to get health, I don't want any distractions, but I think this Coaching staff can guide us through that as they look for the QB who is best to lead the team to a win.
Sure looking forward to the next presser as J.S. is always asked for health updates on Hodgi and Gebbia. We should get a vailed report at a minimum.
Go BEAVS!

Gebbia is weeks away, Hodgins will most likely sit out Utah and whichever the next road game is between Cal and Colorado....then can play the last four games without wasting a season.

Really On Gebbia? Can he medical redshirt? I think Gebbia has already had a redshirt due to his transfer year, but got an extra year coming because of last year being the covid year that everyone got effectively a redshirt... he might have 2 years left? I'm thinking Hodgins, even though it seems like he's been here forever, could play 4 games and still get 2 more years if he wants because last year was a freebie. If these kids can have two more years here and want to do two more years here, it will be good for our depth.

Why are we having QB issues like this in year 4?

Why are we having QB issues like this in year 4? injuries. The frontrunner for QB and one more guy for backup, Gulbranson, are out for most or all of the year with injuries. I don't know if Gulbranson would have been the answer, but odds are when two of your top four guys legitimately competing for the QB position, including the most likely starter, suffer long-term injuries, the odds of putting your best foot forward at the position have severely declined.

Makes sense. Amazing how 1-2 injuries can be a hindrance to a season having greater success which in turn can hold back or slow down the advancement of the program.

Why are we having QB issues like this in year 4? Did year 3 really count? And how many QBs played last year for us?

Katz was the presumed starter going in to 2011. Katz was coming off injury from 2010, he played poorly against Sacramento St.and was replaced by Mannion.
