Where were our receivers? Lindsay, and the rest. Seemed like they didn’t play or we only looked for the tight ends, who can’t catch the ball or cannot get opened. Did I miss something. They don’t even show up on the stats dealing with number of snaps.

Nolan had at least two terrible passes to wide open tight ends, plus another two stupid passes, when Nolan was trying to force it rather than taking what the defense gave him.

From my spot on the couch, it looked like the whole passing game was forced. No rhythm. Tight. Forced. There were a couple nice passes reminiscent of the previous games, but far too few. Maybe that's on Nolan being too green to read the coverage well. Maybe he's a work in progress. The thing is, we know what he can do, but how do we get him back to that level of proficiency? The tight ends are disappointing. Their hands are not as sure as they need to be for the role that they play. They're great blockers, though, so let's keep using them that way and toss the ball to the folks who can catch it. Speaking of which, I wonder which of our running backs can catch the ball. I'd love to see them get the ball in some open space and watch what they can do. It was Lowe who caught the ball on our last play and nearly got the first down, right? More of that.

Nolan had a couple nice passes to Flemings.....most everything else looked like dying ducks, and were behind receivers.

They don’t even show up on the stats dealing with number of snaps. That's been my concern all year. We've got some nice dudes and solid depth and I love that they willingly block downfield, but in terms of speed, we have a bunch of reliable Toyotas. We could really use a Ferrari (Cooks, Wheaton, Stroughter, etc). IMO - we've got a green quarterback who struggles to get through his progressions and locks on to the first guy (like a lot of young QBs), if that first guy isn't getting separation, then, as my wife would put it - "we're in a pickle".

Lowe always seems to play in obvious passing downs. He is good at picking up blitzes, but I suspect it’s mainly because he has the best hands of our RBs.

Nolan is not throwing with confidence all of a sudden. He is slow on reads, late on throws, not throwing guys open. I have no idea what happened, his arm doesn't look at strong either which is concerning. night and day difference between USC Nolan and the last two games. USC isn't "good" but they are not complete garbage either and a better defense than WSU's. We saw Nolan make some Aaron Rodger type throws (and some nice wide open ones). Last two games I just sit there screams at him to hit the open guy that he just... won't. He is flat locking in on read #1 and not moving. It is utterly bizarre.

I really do want to like Nolan but his throwing mechanics just don't look good. Makes it hard to believe the results when it looks so bad. Like when you're guarding a guy at Dixon with a horrendous looking jumper that makes some shots. You have to give him the benefit of the doubt because there's some success but deep down you're not convinced of actual ability.

At least one site had Chance Nolan as the #1 JUCO quarterback. Nolan looks super-talented but still needing work. That is probably why Noyer got the first start. Noyer starts, and they work to perfect Nolan with Nolan maybe taking over after the bye. And then, Noyer looked like garbage and they went with a more talented but not really 100% ready for primetime Nolan. To me, Nolan just looks inconsistent. Some throws are behind the receiver. Some are long. Some are short. He does not look like he has the arm strength to hit the downfield passes consistently and then simultaneously looks like he is not following through right to hit those short passes all of the time. When he is on, he can be electric. When he is not, it really shows.

I may be just blocking it out, but when have the tight ends dropped it? I saw Nolan throw high to Quitoriano (4th & 2, for example), and I saw Nolan throw behind Musgrave (3rd & 8 before the fake punt, for example). However, I never saw a the TEs drop a well-thrown ball. Those guys are huge targets, too, and should be hard to miss. But Nolan seems to find a way.

After the first 4 games lots of people were thinking "how did Chance not win the job in camp?" I would have rather still been questioning our staff's competency, than have Nolan show us his flaws.

I'd like to point back to that USC tweet about how USC had some 46 odd 4* or higher ranked players on their team to OSU's 7. basically same story with Washington. Our staff absolutely is doing a tremendous job. No question about it. The hole we were in cannot be understated and it will take time to get better talent to look at OSU. the transfers we are getting and the new recruits get better every year. There is no question OSU landed the right guy. People put the cart WAY out in front of the horse after USC and UW, despite a couple red flags in that UW game. We continue to show we are an improving team all around, but we have to keep having patiences. OSU is not a "Have" school. We do not have the legacy, the money, the reputation, the... anything a lot of other schools have. We just spent about 3 years being a national laughing stock. The fact we are so grumpy about being 4-2 really shows you how far this staff has taken us.
