Oregon State's 2025 recruiting class has added another Nationally ranked Top-100 athlete with the addition of Ethan Porter from Costa Mesa, California. Ethan becomes the 4th member of the Beaver's '25 class, joining Xavie Neyens, Mason Pike and Gage Thompson. All four players are just beginning their high school careers as freshman and will play their first high school game in the spring of 2022.
Ethan is a big boy, he's a solid 6-1, 195 and is 15 years old. He attends Huntington Beach H.S. and will play in the highly successful program of Coach Benjamin Medue who has coached the Oilers (colors are orange and black) since 2005. The Oilers are 159-27 over the past 7 seasons. They are a fixture in the CIF-Southern Section, Division I playoffs annually.
Ethan Porter is an athlete and a versatile baseball player. In competing in organized baseball at a high level, he has played 3B, 1B, OF and pitched. Without clarification, I suspect he comes to OSU as a 3B and pitching prospect. He has played summer ball with the soCal Giants and the Canes American national team. He has been named to 6 All Tournament teams and 7 Top Prospect teams in Showcase events. Rawlins Perfect Game ranks him the 92nd best prospect nationally in the 2025 class.
At 3B, Ethan moves well, has a sure glove and can make the necessary throws with an infield velo of 86 mph. At the plate he has a relaxed and controled swing that puts the barrel on the ball with a high rate of contact. His exit velo of 94.18 mph is + + for a 15 year old. He has huge power from the pull side and coaches say the ball jumps off his bat. Ethan has a big frame, long limbs and there is tons of projection with him. He has good speed (7.15 sixty). He has dominated California Showcase weekends, recording top marks consistently in most all metrics recorded. He is ranked #16 on the California Top-150. He has received the prestigious 9.0 evaluation grade from Perfect Game.
As a pitcher, he has a simple, balanced delivery from the stretch with a high 3/4 arm slot. Mechanically, he looks superb. He throws an 87 mph fastball, slider, and curve ball. He has good command of all 3 pitches. It will be interesting to see if he gravitates towards the mound under Coach Medue's watchful eye for talent.
