LinkNot sure a career .230 hitter in D1 should be signing. Needs another year IMHO.

Agreed, he's not going to hit big league pitching. He may be able to play many different positions, but he is not outstanding at any of them. Another year could really help because he could solidify his offense and defense and improve his draft stock. But, if he feels he can go now, I hope he gets a fair shot and makes it.

I know a lot of these guys get 6 figure signing bonuses, but what type of salaries do they earn in the minor leagues?

IMO 1) he'll probably play more this summer in rookie ball than he would have played for us next season 2) if it's his lifelong dream...well, I'll never fault anyone for chasing their dream.
For some kids, partial schollie + out of state tuition < making a little cash and playing baseball every day.
Congrats and good luck - will be rooting for you.

I look at it this way. Caleb if he is like most kids, grew up thinking I would play pro ball for free, just give me the chance. now someone has offered a little bit of money and a chance to fulfill that dream. odds are against almost anyone who signs and you make hardly any money in the minors, and there are thousands of kids who would gladly take Caleb's spot. go Caleb, chase your dream ! beaver nation will be pulling for you.

How does baseball scholarships compare with other sports (not football or basketball) Does a golfer who's a par shooter get a full ride? How about wrestling - soccer - gymnastics. I always thought baseball was getting hosed with what they are able to give out. I would guess that baseball is the third best income producer. I love golf but, does anyone pay to watch college golf? I doubt many students even know we have a golf team or how they are doing in league play. Just doesn't seem fair. I won't even venture into title 9 requirements.
