An old baseball axiom is that, "you can never have too much pitching". I think it fair to say, the OSU coaches subscribe to that theory. MC and RD probably could be accused of "stacking" talent on top of talent at one position in the class. With Coach Dorman adhering to modern MLB trends by building a strong back-end (bullpen) and using a multitude of arms for one inning relief stints, he needs a deep and healthy pitching staff.
The latest Beaver commitment is RHP Matthew Morrell, a 6-3, 195 pound RHP out of Cypress HS in Placentia, CA. A little trivia - (Cypress is Tiger Wood's alma mater). Morrell has an effective 3 pitch mix and throws premium gas at 92 mph (has touched 93) at age 17. His stock has been on the ascendancy since he started receiving some exposure on the summer tournament circuit. He plays for a very talented East Coast Sox team in the major summer/fall events.
Rawlings-Pefect Game ranks him # 240 on the National Top-500 and # 40 on the California Top-200.
Matthew Morrell joins Tyler Gough, Gibson Marshall-Inman, Dallas Macias, Isaac Hill, Connor Pote, Logan Miller, Nelson Keljo, and Aiden Jiminez in the 2022 recruiting cycle. A few Caveats, Gough is a MLB Draft risk, Macias, Miller, and Jiminez are all accomplished infielders when not pitching.
Keljo is now the #1 ranked prospect in Oregon with Hill slipping to #2 with Prep Baseball Report.

I butchered it. I transposed Morrell and Tait - Tait is 2022, Morrell is 2023.
Matthew Morrell joins Drew Talavs, Trent Carraway, James DeCremer, Paul Wilson, Ethan Unruh, Ryan Speshyock, and Spencer Green in the 2023 class. Which BTW, should rank as one of the better group of pitchers recruited nationally in 2023.
Tait will join Gough, Macias, et al. in 2022.
