Reportedly, the NCAA will cast a vote in October that would allow college football programs to increase the number of scholarships in the 2022 recruiting classes from 25 to 32 which would expand the the total number of scholarships from the current 85 to 92.
This action is necessary because of the Covid year roster explosion and the one-year, one-time transfer rule Many teams need to replace a large number of lost transfers.
Ironically, College baseball faces those same problems - In the interest of equity, 15 scholarships are needed for college baseball programs.
Oregon state is faced with replacing five transfers, including a starting catcher and a front line pitcher. D-1 Baseball has ranked the top-75 transfers in college baseball, and two former Beavers are in the top10.
Number 7 is Catcher Troy Claunch. "Brings an impressive resume of success to Texas A&M". Hit over .300 in rwo of four seasons at OSU. "Has a solid defensive skill set". "Will greatly help A&M behind the plate"
Number 10 is Pitcher Jack Washburn. "Was instrumental to OSU success in 2021". "Talented front end pitcher". Held opposing hitters to .186 batting average. Will bolster the Ole Miss pitching staff in '22.

It's all about money, right?
Personally, I'll take a good weekend series at Goss over football any day. But I love baseball. For the average college kid/sports fan, baseball is too slow, and the chess matches within each games go unnoticed. Baseball is a sport you really need to be invested in.
Football is big, loud, action packed, and brings the masses and eyeballs on TV.....so it generates money....so they get the support to make more money.

(To the original question) No. But football and men’s basketball are the proverbial golden egg-laying geese.

If Canham is allowing our players to play chess during the game, he should be fired immediately.
