Ober is not coming back. I had not heard that. Lot's of positions are wide open for next season, especially up the middle. Might take awhile for the team to get settled in but there are some good players who will be competing to get playing time. Dernedde, Boyd, Meckler, Forrester, Dukart, and Bazzanna should rise to the top. Verburg is going to be the closer and should do well. Mundt will also be in the mix for late game pressure situations. Starting pitching should be a strength, hopefully with less walks and hit batters this season.

Opinion - Kerry was and still is the best sportswriter in Oregon. Terrific source of information for all Beaver fans.
He covered the team from A to Z. The article could have been titled "Guide to 2022 Beaver baseball".
One small correction and only important because it involves something we could use - Power in the DH hole.
T.J. Wheeler is from Beyer HS in Modesto, played his first year at powerhouse Sacramento CC. When Sac-City shut their program down because of Covid concerns, T.J. transferred to Yavapai CC in Arizona. That is relevant because he hit 20 home runs in 52 games at Yavapai against good competition.

The Eggers conversation with Mitch Canham and subsequent article on Beaver baseball, left what I suspect were several intentional ommisions that were telling.
No mention of LHP A.J. Lattery returning for '22. No mention of RSF catcher Daniel Pruitt returning. No mention of RHP Jayson Hibbard. He was recruited by Coach Dorman a year ago out of Southern Idaho C.C. His commitment may have fizzled.
Everyone else was accounted for by Eggers.
My guesstimate on roster numbers is: 44 total for Fall Practice 25 returning players (12 are pitchers) 5 new transfers (all 5 are pitchers) 14 freshman recruits (5 are pitchers).

Among the returnees who saw little or no action last season are sophomore right-handers AJ Lattery (6-5, 240)

Lattery is indeed mentioned in the Eggers article: "among the returnees who saw little or no action last season are sophomore right right-handers A.J. Lattery..." Eggers however could have given Lattery the same treatment that he afforded more than a half dozen other players - and reported summer stats. In A.J.'s case that would be: WCL/Bend Elks - 25-2/3 IP / 17 H / 11 ER / 28 SO / 10 BB / 3.85 ERA / 1.050 WHIP. He was very good in the summer of 2021.

Whoa! - Excellent breakdown. Simple math says 22 pitchers in Fall practice. So much to chose from, but on the other hand several that will not make the roster. Of the 14 (P) freshman recruits, Kmatz will not only make roster, but will contribute....and imho will be the Friday night starter in 2024...and maybe even 2023.

A stable of arms for Dormand to sort out. One concern the staff might have is having only 3 left handers out of the 23 total (adding Lattery back in). Hjerpe is our only experienced lefty, Thorsteinson has seen only limited action and Case is an incoming freshman. I expect to see lineups stacked with left handed hitters from those PAC teams that like to platoon for favorable match-ups.
Losing Mulholland and Watkins, plus Walling the year before has depleted our inventory of portsiders.

Eggers is the best sportswriter in Oregon. Makes chumps like Canzano irrelevant

Tough to lose Ober and Claunch but hoping Tyree Reed (trending down) and Bazzana (trending up) can make a splash.
Hunter Cope is 6-11, 260-pounds and you can’t teach that.

We pulled in several new pitchers that are tall bodies. Interesting.
Ober being gone brings a mix of emotions. I really liked his bat but his fielding may have not been up to par with others on the roster/depth chart.
I think Durnedde's strong post season may have been the tipping point? I don't wish Ober any ill will, he was a huge contributor but maybe he could see the handwriting on the wall? As fan's we are always curious about what goes into a decision like that. Maybe one day we will know.
It is an exciting group. My final thought is Coach Dorman's biggest decisions might happen at Roster cut downs. How many pitchers do we normally carry on the roster? I should look it up for myself but I like making those of you who know the answer feel needed. LOL.

Teams that scouted him well gave him a steady diet, and he struggled. When he got a good FB to hit though, he'd crush it!

Not sure what to make of his 10 for 72 (with 37 SO) in 2021 summer league against a mix of pitching that ranged from CC up to D-1. Just plain ugly, at any rate. With the middle infielders that are returning, plus Bazzana, Dernedde will need a great Fall and good early 2022 season to crack the lineup on a regular basis.
