Damien Martinez – Lewisville ’22 Running back (Oregon State)
Oregon State is getting a steal with three-star RB Damien Martinez. From the opening drive, Lewisville decided to run the ball down the middle of Bowie’s defense. Martinez took it to the house for 51 yards and blew by everybody in the process. Not the speed somebody 220 pounds should have.
Combining what seemed to be an early first-quarter ankle injury with the Farmers getting a sizable lead, Martinez was not the feature back for most of the ball game. According to the Dallas Morning News, he finished with 10 carries for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
With how big and talented Lewisville’s offensive line is, Martinez is going to run for a lot of yards this season. Even without good blocking help, bringing down a 220-pound back with his pop and speed is not going to be fun for anybody. That includes Pac-12 defenders beginning next season.

I like hearing stats like that, but high school can be far different than college.
It's going to be tough for me to get past another Damien, Damien Haskins', 2 game stretch in high school where he had 11 carries for 11 TDs and 600 yards. When he KO'd a linebacker in the endzone on his first college TD I thought he was destined for a great college career.
I don't want to be a buzz kill, I'm excited about this kid already.

For what it's worth, Haskins played Texas 2A. Martinez plays 6A - currently #8 in Texas 6A in rushing yards - definitely a different level of competition.
