When the first lineup card is filled out in 2022, the first three Oregon State hitters facing the opposing pitcher will be, in no particular order:
Meckler - Bazzana - Melton
Let the fireworks begin.

Speaking of Bazzana, and whether he will in fact be one of the first three Beavers up to the plate on Feb. 18, 2022 (as per OP)...how does he compare to 11 other W.C.L. Summer League Beavers (present, incoming, past) using one single, possibly flawed, criter1a: Batting Average.
WCL season is nearing completion and by now hitters have had the chance to go up against the bulk of the combined CC/NAIA/D1 pitching staffs that comprise the league.
In descending order -
Travis Bazzana .444 in 135 AB Greg Fuchs .291 in 55 AB Gavin Logan .274 in 73 AB Jake Harvey* .261 in 46 AB Paul Myro .250 in 120 AB Tanner Smith .230 in 135 AB Micah McDowell .216 in 51 AB Wilson Weber .202 in 84 AB Thomas Dukart .194 in 31 AB Mason Guerra .171 in 35 AB Brady Kasper .130 in 54 AB Kyle Dernedde .123 in 57 AB
(may have missed a player or two)
How's Bazzana compare? Darn near 'off the charts' it appears.

Darn near 'off the charts' it appears. Beau Phillips hit well over 300 in his stint with the Knights, I believe, but what Bazzana is doing is probably record breaking. And WCL pitching is no slouch, it was rated the #1 league a few years ago, over the Cape Cod even.

Love his batting average, but the pitching is really down in the league the last couple years. Mostly NAIA - JC level pitching. Maybe a handful of PAC 12 talent on the mound in the whole league

Love his batting average, but the pitching is really down in the league the last couple years. Mostly NAIA - JC level pitching. Maybe a handful of PAC 12 talent on the mound in the whole league Of the 11 Beav position players in the WCL (omitting Jake Harvey now), SIX (4 Beaver roster players from 2021, and 2 touted incoming Freshmen), with a combined 312 AB this summer in the WCL, are batting in the .123 to .230 range. And that's in a "pitching really down" league. Maybe it's the wood bats ?? p.s. I took a quick look at the D-1 vs NAIA / JC pitching staff make-ups of the 3 teams in the WCL with the best team ERA. 47% of the pitchers on those 3 teams were D-1. Though not weekend starter types.

As great as Bazzana's #'s are, McDowell and Dukart really make me pause...and nervous.

Yes, also Dernedde not doing great. But has pretty low ABs… injured?
Not knowing how the newcomers will hit, I wouldn’t mind seeing the top 3 go-
1) Bazzana 2) Melton 3) Ober

Would love to see McDowell in the top of the lineup......that would mean he could all the sudden could hit Pac 12 level pitching. He was completely outmatched last season.

Chandler Anderson led the Knights in hitting in 2018, .337, and was the Knights' MVP. Anderson went to the University of Utah and hit .219. Andy Atwood hit .323 in 2016 and followed that up by hitting .239 at Oregon State in 2017. He transferred to Texas-Rio Grande Valley. Last year, he hit .340 but was not drafted. Since joining the WCL in 2005, the Knights' best hitter was Jake Holcroft (Portland). Holcroft was hitting .484 before coronavirus wiped out the 2020 season. Holcroft returned in 2021 and hit .262. Shane McGuire (San Diego) hit .451 for the Victoria HarbourCats in 2017. McGuire hit .287 in the subsequent season but was named a Freshman All-American and second team All-WCC. McGuire hit .278 last year and was drafted by the Athletics in the Ninth Round, signing for $100,000.00, $50,800 below slot.

Chandler Anderson hit .336 at Utah in 2017. Yes, and then he forgot how to hit. My post was mostly about how great hitters in the WCL are not always great hitters in college ball.

So , summary seems to be .... We have a bunch of guys that can't hit mediocre pitching with a wood bat . But , there is one kid that CAN hit mediocre pitching with a wooden bat !
To me, this is an example of how tough the game of baseball is - not that some guys will never adjust . A great hitting coach can make minor little adjustments, to a guys swing, that can get a good hitter back into the .300's !

Andrew Susac hit about .200 for the Knights. So sometimes poor hitters in the WCL are good hitters in college ball.
