Could a BIG-10(14) and a PAC-12 merger work? Have 2 13 Team divisions with a championship game.(for football) That would help lock in the Mich/Ohio ST/USC's of the world. I just think standing put could be detrimental. A 26 Team BIG-10/PAC-12 and a 26 Team SEC/ACC type thing would at least keep some semblance of order.(maybe?) This is what big ten people are talking about.. two scenarios.. 1) the big ten believes that the SEC is trying to replace the NCAA.. so it enters into talks with the PAC 12 and some other AAU schools to form their own super conference polarizing the SEC. 2) big ten people don’t believe that and so they poach a couple desirable candidates. This would probably lead to the remaining big 12 schools heading to the PAC and big ten if they are desired .. whoever is left over will probably start their own conference like a glorified mountain west. Penn state may be the next domino to fall either way as faint rumors are they may head to the ACC. Oh no… not that. Lol These schools like Texas and Oklahoma should be careful what they wish for. You end up finishing middle or worse bottom middle of the new SEC.. over time you just end up being looked at the same way as schools who are already middle of the Pack SEC. A pod based mega conference would be cool .. as the pac 12 and big ten are closest to each other academically .. Right now you better have some powerful allegiances or you risk being left out

If UNLV gets access to the Pac 12 or any major conference, they can show recruits they have the best football stadium, potentially the best basketball arena if they move to T mobile, in a city that is as glamorous as LA and willing to throw huge endorsements to kids. of course that's not important to some kids...but the ones that count who are using college sports merely as a vehicle to play pro sport... It has the potential to be a sleeping giant in this new landscape of college sports. Ah, the Ol' sleeping giant. Thought Arizona St had the trademark on that. But anyway, they could show recruits those things now. The money grabbers should have already figured out that you don't need a conference for endorsement deals. Those recruits don't want to play in the MWC

Just not sure how much cachet the P12 gives a crappy football program. Lipstick on a pig thing.

But I'm guessing there is more money to throw at recruits, and more people/organizations to do it in Las Vegas than say...Corvallis or Pullman or Tucson. I'd say Eugene but not sure the Fertitas would go full Phil Knight

That actually cuts revenue for both conferences. Right now, both conferences (Pac 12 and Big (more than) 10) each have a conference game. Your idea cuts it down to one game for two conferences. I don't think either one would go for that.

Honestly, once the top 30 or so revenue schools finish constructing their exclusive Superconferences and dump the rest of the teams, I wouldn't mind at all if the rest of the schools just boycotted playing the giants. The SEC is already pushing for a college football playoff with no limit on representation by any conference. It's not just the G5 they want to exclude, it's also the rest of the P5 that doesn't have the revenue to keep up.
What's the point for the smaller schools? Body-bag road games at SEC schools when the SEC deigns to pay the visitors $750,000 for the game? The rest of the schools might as well just play each other and build momentum in their own division.

The point will be they can negotiate much bigger payouts with the top schools and will still need that revenue to fund their athletic departments.

UNLV and BYU in the Pac would be kinda cool. If we have to go 16, maybe Boise State and KU (for basketball)? Not super exciting and probably not a lot of extra TV dollars. At least we have geography on our side. Hard to imagine the Big 12 or Big Ten managing to raid the likes of USC, UCLA, or UW. I think we'll still have a league but continue to be the little brothers, at least in football. It was already all about the $EC even before this. This just makes it official.

Not sure they would come (although they do seem unhappy with the Big Ten), but perhaps KU in the scenario above could be traded for Nebraska? Would slightly expand the conference footprint, and they do have somewhat of a national following plus bringing the Lincoln-Omaha market. CU-NU was always a better rivalry than CU-UU will ever be. And bringing in BYU would bring the Holy War to the Pac, which could be a lot of fun. Those schools absolutely despise each other.
