Seems like it is mostly sports commentators repeating other sports commentators opinion that USC would be best off in big 10 in the coming wave of realignment. Have yet to see anyone saying this is likely based off inside sources. Seems logistically extremely difficult for all the non-revenue sports with the travel requirements. Commentators skip over this by saying bring some other Pac-12 AAU schools along for the ride (9 of 12 pac 12 schools are AAU, OSU ,WSU, ASU are not)

Why is OSU not a member? Choice? From wikipedia "The Association of American Universities (AAU) is an organization of American research universities devoted to maintaining a strong system of academic research and education. Founded in 1900, it consists of 64 universities in the United States (both public and private) and two universities in Canada. AAU membership is by invitation only and requires an affirmative vote of three-quarters of current members." Nebraska was AAU when it joined the big10, it no longer is.

Yeah. I keep wondering why Oregon is AAU and Oregon State isn't? There were issues of Oregon not retaining its AAU status maybe 5-6 years? I guess Nike bought out the AAU?
What is keeping the Beavs from getting the invitation? Retention?

What is keeping the Beavs from getting the invitation? Retention? I believe it is limited to 100 universities. Somebody has to leave for someone to be invited. Obviously no one leaves willingly. OSU was not even considered a "university" until 1961. Our strengths - engineering, forestry, oceanography, the hard sciences, ag sciences, nuclear science - have become far more important in the last 50 years than they were when liberal arts dominated higher education. Land-grant universities have traditionally been thought of as lesser institutions, the cow colleges where the hayseeds go. The kids of the gentry went to the liberal arts school. Hence UO's longtime claim to being Oregon's "flagship university," when we all know that to be a load of hogwash.

Syracuse withdrew shortly thereafter, because they figured that they were next on the chopping block.

Hence UO's longtime claim to being Oregon's "flagship university," when we all know that to be a load of hogwash. There are currently 66 universities in the AAU. Nebraska was just kicked out, and Syracuse voluntarily quit, because they were next on the chopping block. The AAU no longer lets universities count agricultural research in their research numbers, which is part of the reason why Nebraska was kicked out and Syracuse quit. As of 2014, Oregon ranked behind Oregon State and dead last of the 66 members in the AAU's internal rankings. Mind you, Oregon State was only five spots ahead of Oregon.

That would be a plus. IMO What do they add? No TV market. Difficult place to travel. No travel partner. Horrible basketball program. No baseball program. Second-fiddle in their state. Not seeing it.

They are a very successful football program under their current coveted coach, and Matt Campbell has said no to the bigs! Their hoops teams are usually very good, but yes, suck recently. Big picture.

If we're gonna take a program from flyover country, Okie State has ISU beat every way imaginable. And I don't want them either.
