The Cats hire a former player, former MLB Manager and now Detroit Tiger Coach - Chip Hale
The PAC is taking on a "pro look" with Canham, Bloomquist, and Hale all coming to the conference directly from the pro game.

I should mention according to Baseball America and Kendall Rogers at D-1 baseball, Arizona was paying Jay Johnson well north of $800k per year, not the $500+ that was mentioned here on the board. Pitching Coach/ Associate Head Coach Nate Yeskie was making $350k at Arizona, not the $250k that was also reported here. He made $240 at OSU and didn't move to Tucson for $10k.
Hale has a 5 year contract.
Like Canham and Bloomquist, Hale has no college coaching experience.
Also noted was Arizona pursuing the UO coach hard but A.D. Mullins in a pre-emptive strike, inked his coach to a new 5 year deal which allowed "coach Waz" to spurn the Arizona overtures.

Berry has already transferred to Lsu...a bunch more in the portal. It will be interesting to see what product the new coach puts on the field in 2022

You can expect Hale's first recruiting trip will be to the Portal - Arizona has 20 names in the Transfer Portal. Some like Holgate will wait to see how the draft plays out before making a decision of returning v transferring. Several are expected to be drafted, others are weighing their options. It's easier to put your name in the portaland then withdraw it than having to go the Waiver request route, because you didn't enter the portal before the deadline.
Berry transferred to LSU. Susac and T.J. Nicho say they are staying.
Right now, Arizona baseball is facing 1) 20 payers with remaining eligibility in the Transfer Portal, 2) An expected "hit" from the MLB Draft - as many as 5 or 6 players. 3) Uncertainty with their ranked recruiting class - some schools allow recruits to void their LOI's when a HC change is made. 4) A possible loss of commits in their '22-23-24 classes. Our transition was relatively smooth and we lost Daniel and Tonka Susak, JR Ritchie, and Malakhi Knight - Four future Pros. There is always some degree of fall-out.

Didn't we lose Gilbert to Tennessee too who is a star... Ummm yea… well chronicled in whole Casey retirement, Yeskie to AZ drama Drew was Vols centerfielder and cleanup hitter all year this year. a Jr next year. |

When the staff changed, he flipped to Tennessee. Plus think Yeskie wanted only as pitcher. Casey’s retirement was key and Tennessee’s coach is type A hard recruiter and charismatic. Vols getting to CWS was no joke. |
