Former Beaver pitcher is a rising star with MLB Scouts. Recruited by coaches Bailey and Yeskie out of Longview's R.A. Long HS in the OSU class of 2018.
Dominated hitters in the GSHL -3A his Junior year and over the summer in Area Code games and in tournament play. Needed TJ surgery and missed his Senior year and first year at OSU. Pitched for the Beavs in 2020, then somewhat surprisingly, transferred to Eastern Oklahoma State to play JC ball in 2021. He has flourished at EOSC.
He has demonstrated command of a 4-pitch arsenal including a mid-90's fastball that touched 96 on a regular basis. Baseball America now has him ranked number 111 in the coming MLB Draft - well ahead of Kevin Abel and a 4th round projection.. PBR says he is the 4th best JuCo prospect in the country on ther TOP-50 JC rankings. Here's a blurb;
"Another left-hander, Andrew Walling sits at No. 4 overall. The one-time Oregon State Beaver is now a Mississippi State Bulldog commit and is the second arm from Eastern Oklahoma State in the Top 5. Walling runs his fastball into the mid-90s, touching 96 with three strong secondary offerings in his curve, slider and changeup."
What happened here?

Walling was ready to transfer after the 2019 season because he wanted to be a 2 way player. I don’t know why he stayed for 2020. He was brutally unhappy after 2019, and at least a couple posters know the phrasing from very close to the horse’s mouth. In one respect, Nate and Dorman had it right on Chamberlain and Walling: lefty power pitchers are a valued asset as lefty, power pitchers.

What happened? He got healthy. And perhaps he started throwing strikes consistently, which he never did here.
Lefties are always going to be prized more than righties.

That works - if you aren't happy playing Beaver baseball, you should transfer ASAP.
You can't be a Beav and be half in - you are either all in or all out.

Beaver baseball in 2020 and 2021 isn't the same as beaver baseball from 2019 and earlier. Raw talent and physical tools will find a place on a team even if the intangibles aren't there, which may not have been the case on old Casey teams. It isn't up to us fans to determine if a player isn't happy somewhere or is half in either.
Point is basically, we don't really know what beaver baseball is right now with a coaching staff that has only had 1.25 seasons. The players may not either. Don't think we should be rushing to judge them or anyone on the team for making a choice that is right for them.

We may have a misunderstanding here, It isn't the fans deciding a player's unhappiness, it's the player and the coaching staff. That statement suggesting a change in philosophy by the OSU staff smacks of a player's perspective, not an OSU coaches perspective. The transfer portal is full of guys that were "half-in" in their respective programs. One of the redeeming virtues of Canham's resume is that he played in Casey's culture, has always embraced it and isn't interested in changing it.
Raw talent and physical tools are wonderful but they neither guarantee a position on the field or success in Omaha. Arguably, the two most physically talented teams in the country prior to the season were Florida and UCLA - they were 1-2 in nearly every poll I saw. Neither played in the CWS.
From a coaches perspective. Who the hell wants to coach 40 guys that are half in?
I was around when Riley took the helm and then Casey, no one knew what the future held, It must play out for several seasons until you can realistically assess the players and the coaching staff.
