Two new names for the Beavs are in the Transfer Portal: Jack Washburn and Jonah Giblin.
My guess is Washburn wants to be a starter next year, and he’s on the outside looking in at being a weekend rotation guy for the Beavs.

We had a lot of pitchers this season, and some good arms coming in at a point where the rosters are going to get a bit smaller. Giblin's not a surprise given the load of guys in front of him, but I really had hopes for Washburn becoming a key contributor.

Washburn's younger brother has signed somewhere, maybe they will be reuniting.

Washburn's younger brother has signed somewhere, maybe they will be reuniting. Owen committed to South Carolina. He chose South Carolina over Minnesota, Purdue and Virginia. Jack chose Oregon State over Nebraska and South Carolina in 2018 after Pat Casey retired. If South Carolina gets both Washburns, that would be quite the coup. Jack will be a draft-eligible sophomore next year. Among pitchers who threw at least 10 innings, Jack Washburn finished third on the team in BAA behind Kevin Abel and Bryant Salgado. He will be missed. And not getting Owen is another blow.

One credible scenario for '22 was a weekend rotation of Hjerpe-Phennigs-Washburn although Frisch may have been an obsticle for thge Sunday start. I doubt this transfer was expected or welcomed by the coaches. Giblin held considerable promise but was one of many that will copete for innings next year. The Pandemic toll taken on college rosters touched many good college prospects around the country.
Prior to these two transfers, the Beavs were looking at returning 15-16 pitchers from the '21 roster and adding 7 incoming pitchers - 5 freshman and 2 JC transfers. That could change with the draft and more possible transfers. With what I know now, I don't think more than 1 of the 5 freshman will contribute much their first year in the program.
Given my druthers, Washburn and Giblin were not two I would have preferred losing. The staff may not agree.
