Travels with Pat.
He explored it. Was the trip to Baton Rouge prompted by serious interest? Was it a courtesy extended to longtime friend, Coach Manieri? Was there an offer on the table? Many questions that will go unanswered and rightfully so. PC is a private guy.
Ole Miss coach Bianco and East Carolina's coach Godwin look like the finalists.
From D1Baseball: "LSU is closing in on its new head baseball coach, and the two names that keep coming up with my sources — Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco and East Carolina head coach Cliff Godwin. Both would make total sense, and both have extensive history with the LSU program. To recap the past week, LSU had in-depth discussions with former Oregon State head coach Pat Casey, and he was the leading candidate. I’m certain of that. He also was in Baton Rouge the Thursday before NCAA Regionals began. Casey and LSU mutually ended things, with Casey staying put in Corvallis for family reasons. There also was plenty of outcry from LSU fans about the mere mention of Casey as a strong candidate"

That’s pretty rich by the LSU fans. You know what they say in the SEC “ if Jeffrey Dahmer could run a 4.3 forty they would call his problem an eating disorder “

The SEC is a monument to hypocrisy.
Where the immoral moralize to suit their purpose.
Ignorant of the facts, shallow fans posturing for effect.
Pathetic.

IF he truly was the leading candidate I'm glad we didn't get the leading candidate.

IF he truly was the leading candidate I'm glad we didn't get the leading candidate. That's because you're clearly ignorant of the facts in the Heimlich case. PC knew the truth and stayed quietly and justifiably loyal to his player. Moreover he did so regardless of public reaction, pro or con. Good luck trying to find a better, more ethical coach or human being than PC.

IF he truly was the leading candidate I'm glad we didn't get the leading candidate. It is laughable to use the words “ethics”, “morals” or “integrity” in the same sentence as “$EC” or any $EC member. Pat Casey is as honest and straight as any coach in America. During his Hall of Fame career he built a hugely successful program while maintaining the highest level of values that very few can match. That is his legacy.

You should go look at the reason I posted her a few days ago that I didn’t want Pat Casey to be the next coach. You may be the ignorant one.

I dislike people guessing at reasons and then rending their clothes in apoplectic moral outrage. Paul Maineri is 63 yrs old and retiring because of health reasons. I don’t want to replace him with a 62 yr old that retired 3 years ago. Because he was tired of the pressure or whatever his reasoning was.

Um, only 2 people actually know the truth, and Pat Casey isn't one of them. none of us would know anything if the Benton County Sheriff hadn't f%#*ed up. So there's that. Luke Heimlich's attorney successfully argued that, because Heimlich was a student, he was not an Oregon resident, so the particular law did not apply to him, which is a great argument to make. However, it is hard to fault the Benton County Sheriff from enforcing the law on an individual, who had lived in the State of Oregon for three years at that point and was not living on campus. The residency surrounding out-of-state students often are very complicated. I personally would rather the Benton County Sheriff's department error on the side of public safety, but I am a kook. If Heimlich had chosen to go to school at pretty much any other school, he would probably be pitching in the Majors now. I must stress that it is always important to hire a great lawyer from the get-go. And when you have a totally messed up legal history, because of a previous poor attorney, a great attorney can help you avoid the situation that Heimlich found himself in.
