Tired of his baseball program being "mired in mediocrity", Arizona State A.D. Ray Anderson fired his coach, Tracy Smith. Smith had been at ASU for seven years with a record of 201-156 (87-92 in PAC play). An injury riddled ASU team failed to reach the finals in the Austin Regional on Sunday. ASU has failed to reach a Super Regional in the past 10 years and hasn't been to Omaha since 2010. A short list of possible replacements includes;
Andy Stankiewicz - HC at Grand Canyon U.
T.J. Bruce -HC at Nevada
Eric Valenzuela - HC at Long Beach State
Willie Bloomquist - With Arizona Diamondbacks
Jake Gautreau - Asst. Coach at Mississippi State (A hot property)
Nate Yeskie - Asst HC at Arizona

In his press conference, where he answered questions from media about the firing and his vision ahead, Anderson, to my surprise, openly admitted that he’s not willing to ‘break the bank’ to get a new head coach, even if someone like former Oregon State skipper Pat Casey, who dominated the Pac 12 during his tenure in Corvallis, is available.

That's a great interview. Doubters should start listening at about the 43 minute mark. Pretty clear Pat is happy with the guys sailing the ship. |

Probably smart...it didn't help the Ducks much. But you run the risk of remaining mediocre, which is fine by me. |
