Not hating on MC, just curious if someone has some intel into what went into the decision. Every thread I've seen that mentions Yeskie has a comment like "There is a reason he wasn't hired". What was the reason? Did him and Casey butt heads?
For what it's worth I think Mitch did fine this year. It was his first full season and he still needs to grow, but as Beaver fans we've been spoiled for the past 20 years with one of the best coaches of all time.

I don’t know what all Scott Barnes took into account, but I do know what PC said when asked for his opinion. He said Yeskie was not ready to be a HC. When it came to Mitch, Pat said he was the guy who would be able to bring the clubhouse back together after it kind of fell apart down the stretch with Bailes.

Yeskie is a pitching coach, if he was head coach material he would've already been hired by someone. Instead he's Jay Johnson's pitching coach/assistant head coach, the assistant coach title is a feel good gesture. I have no problem with fans second guessing coaching decisions. Many of us used to criticize Casey and Yeskie moves that didn't work out, Canham and staff will get the same treatment. Where I draw the line, is wanting to replace Canham after 1 year of baseball (plus 15 games in 2020. IMO it would be premature without us actually having losing seasons and missing the tournament.

There’s a lot more to being a head coach than coaching pitchers. I was at a Corvallis Knight’s Hot Stove night years ago where Nate was one of the featured speakers. He talked to the floor much of the night, even when answering questions. My spouse flipped burgers with him at a Knight’s event. Nate is not a friendly, chatty person. His wife once posted on social media that they are both introverts. This would not work well in the world of D1 head coaches where public speaking and fund raising, among other things, are musts. My personal opinion is he’s well advised to continue as a pitching coach.

That’s not why he wasn’t hired. Butt head was used properly, but should not have included Casey in that sentence.
