I have to admit that I'm very impressed with our guys' grit. I questioned their mental toughness after a really tough stretch run where it seemed like we found new, and interesting ways to lose series......the guys really came out Saturday, and Sunday and showed that they absolutely belong in this tournament!
Yesterday started off with the announcers assuming TCU would prevail, and ended with Forresters walk off......yesterdays games were both instant classics.....Jeff Ramp, I'm jealous!
And now the talking heads are taking notice again....
No matter what happens in game 7, I'm super proud of how this team has shown itself in this regional.

The 'gauntlet' yielded 3 HR's today (including 'honorary member' Hjerpe).
But there were a multitude of other reasons that the Beavs lost. Chief among them: DBU was/is the better team.

Looking back at the season, I cringe at the 'gauntlet' gloss. If you're gonna name yourself that, you need to produce better than the results that were. Otherwise, you just look silly.

Well, despite struggling the last month, they still helped us foster a top 10 ERA. They’re college kids having fun and we wouldn’t of been playing today if it hadn’t been for them. Showing up minutes after the season ends to talk crap about them tells us a lot about you.

Well by my count, there were 20 blown saves this season by the pen. 3 in March, 10 in April, 4 in May, and 3 in June. Beavers went 8-9 in those games involving a blown save, and three games featured 2 blown saves. 19 saves out of 39 opportunities, a 48.7 save percentage.

I never said the pen was perfect. But guess what, all bullpens blow games. It’s baseball. The pen was also asked to pitch more than in past seasons due to the inability of starters to go deep into games. My point remains that coming here to talk crap about them immediately after the season ends is pretty immature thing to do.

And for me personally, I would expect a gauntlet to at least have a save percentage above 50%. They did alright, but not what I would consider a gauntlet. They need to do better.

50% save ratio is pretty crappy, since by definition a save is winning a game you are currently winning.

DBU is no slouch, but the BOB came back to bite us once again. I thought maybe MC should have pulled the trigger earlier, maybe yes, or maybe no, but as I've been told, we can't criticize. Overall, a so-so season I think, could have been a bit better, but considering the youth and learning college coaching, not too bad. We'll have to see what the recruiting roads holds for the Beavs to gauge next year. The pitching, which is supposed to be a big plus, was at times, but the BOB's killed us many times. Next year will be interesting as a few young guys came through at the end of the year, so that's maybe a plus.

All things considered, we are in good shape for next season......lots of arms who will be battle tested now.....some really good emerging talent in the lineup.....Melton, meckler, Boyd, Gretler, Dukart, Dernedde, Forrester, Claunch (if he's back).....that's a good core, plus a good incoming class. I'm betting next year's team will perform better than this team.

Absolutely.....but the flip side of the coin is these guys need swagger, and confidence. I'm ok with them calling themselves something moving forward, but they better live up to it. The talent and potential is there. The results need to follow.

I'm feeling pretty guilty right now for jinxing us in Fort Worth. First of all I allowed myself my first beer of the weekend when we went up 5-0 on Monday. And we all know what happened after THAT. To add to that I brought along my 80 year old pal Roy. As luck (?) would have it Roy has been to Omaha three times for the CWS, with those three years being 2005, 2013 and 2017. The three years he missed going to Omaha were 2006, 2007 and 2018. Mea Culpa!

Remember that these are just kids. They probably thought it sounded cool and powerful. It really had potential to be amazing, and maybe it should’ve performed better than it did, but they are kids. Most aren’t even old enough to grab a beer after the game.
