I’m perplexed by this move as well.....WTF I think everyone else is thinking the same thing!!! Now you bring in a reliever in a jam with no room for error. Either Dorman or Mitch seems to be stuck in very static thinking when it comes to pitchers. They're convinced that a guy coming in should get a specific number of pitches or batters or innings, and they don't seem to deviate from that based on their performance, good or bad. I think it's bad on multiple levels. Obviously it's bad when the pitcher is struggling. But I think it's also bad when the pitcher is on. Pulling him kind of messes with the other players' heads a little bit, cuz deep down you know they're wondering the same thing. And I don't think the kids at this age have the mental fortitude to accept this role-playing aspect of the game (ie, everybody has a role to play, nothing more, nothing less). The game is based more on emotion and momentum in the college game, and I think it's a disservice to these kids to not let your horses run a bit when they're on.... I'm a big supporter of Mitch, but this pulling of pitchers who are on is an aspect of big-league play that I think he needs to throw out the window.... |
