Especially with 2 outs. The first baseman just needs to turn around and step on 1B. No clue why he runs him back and throws it to the catcher. If you take the force out at 1st, the run doesn’t count no matter what.

Fun fact: Adam Frazier, the second baseman who failed to cover first, was Mississippi State's leadoff hitter and shortstop in 2013. In 2013, Frazier started the two-out rally in the fifth of game two with a base hit to right. After Alex Detz singled, as well, Hunter Renfroe (the Red Sox' current starting right fielder) homered to left to put Mississippi State up 4-0.

I'm reminded of Oregon State doing some nifty base running at Stanford in 2015? The Beavs extended a run down, and everybody was safe. Not sure if a run scored during the who episode.

The second baseman has no business covering first on a ground ball to third base. Don't even attempt to blame him. The first baseman is totally responsible for this fiasco.

As I see it, the first baseman made two mistakes. First was to get sucked into the run down with the batter. That was dumb. But equally stupid was the throw to the catcher. He had backed the hitter up to home and there was nowhere else for him to go. Just finish the play and tag the runner out.
He got sucked into the run down. And then he got sucked into stopping the run from scoring. The guy is not bright.

Andrew Summerville goes up 0-2 on Elliott Cary. K.J. Harrison goes. Summerville bluffs Dane Lund off third. 1-5-2-4-5-6 results in absolutely no outs. Summerville comes back to strike out Cary, but the ball got by Austin Barr to put Cary on and bring Lund in. Tyler Thorne comes in to pitch to a Freshman Kyle Nobach, who punched one to right to bring in Harrison. The result was that Oregon State was able to extend a 5-3 lead into a 7-3 lead. The Beavers were able to score four more in the eighth and another in the ninth for a 12-3 win.

The second baseman's play was to lazily drift into the middle infield and leave first base wide open. And then allow the throw from the catcher dribble into right field. World class baseball there. The first baseman 100% created a terrible situation. I agree 100%. But just because you play with a bozo does not mean that you stop playing. If the second baseman had covered first, the first baseman's blunder still works out ok, even if it is ugly baseball.

My God that was dumb! I now know what I’m going to talk to my 3rd/4th grade team about before tomorrow’s tournament. I can totally see them doing this. Haha

I suppose since it involves stupidity from multiple players, it beats this one.
