Isn't Mitch Canham officially known as the "Pat Casey Head Baseball Coach" of OSU? Yes he is. Which is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. Hard enough being the guy asked to replace a legend without naming your job title after the legend and reminding everybody everytime your name is announced that he is trying to replace said legend. Ridiculously stupid for the title to be that in front of his name So maybe you should tell the Kearney’s who put up $3 million to endow the position to take their money back because it was a stupid idea. They put up the $$ and chose that name.

I know that is why the name of the Head Coach was changed to what it is. Doesn't make it right. If they love Pat Casey that much convince them to put his name on something else. Not attach it to a person who has a hard enough job replacing Coach Casey. I might be wrong but I can't think of any other coaching position in any other sport who is not simply named "Head Coach"

Pat Casey earned having his name all over the place. It's being celebrated, as it should be. Without him, the North pac might still not be competitive with the South.

How about "Diamonds are Forever"? That way we could include posts about softball too.

Tons of great coaches in history have earned the utmost respect in their respective sports. John Wooden, Dean Smith, Adolf Rupp, Pat Summitt, Bear Bryant, Eddie Robinson, Bobby Bowden, Angie Garrido, Skip Bertman, Mike Martin, Gordie Gillespie, etc. I put Pat Casey in the same breath as all of these great coaches as some of the best of all time in their respective sports. NONE of the others have people coaching at their old schools with those legends name hanging over their heads on a daily basis

I might be wrong but I can't think of any other coaching position in any other sport who is not simply named "Head Coach" Just two examples off the top of my head: The 2021 season marks David Shaw’s 11th as Stanford’s Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football. Former Stanford quarterback Tavita Pritchard is Stanford’s Andrew Luck Director of Offense and Kevin M. Hogan Quarterbacks Coach. The 2021 season is his 12th on the Cardinal coaching staff, fourth as the Andrew Luck Director of Offense and eighth as the Kevin M. Hogan Quarterbacks Coach.

Or most anywhere in the State of Alabama.

Or most anywhere in the State of Alabama. Alabama football coach Nick Saban is not coaching at his “old school”. Saban went to Kent State. Football coaches that are now head coaches at their alma mater include; Jonathan Smith – Oregon State Pat Fitzgerald - Northwestern David Shaw - Stanford Mike Gundy – Oklahoma State Scott Frost - Nebraska Paul Chryst - Wisconsin Jim Harbaugh - Michigan Kirby Smart - Georgia

Being compared to Bear Bryant is different than Nick Saban having the title of The Bear Bryant Head Football Coach.
And yes I have been to Alabama many times

I was thinking it was just in reference to coaches that had to follow those legends. I missed the part about it being at their old school. My bad.

How about "Diamonds are Forever"? That way we could include posts about softball too. The softball posts would get lost on this board. And since their volume doesn’t merit a dedicated board, I’d prefer to keep them on Bernice’s Place.

I think much like the football board, the name must be earned. I don't think it's close yet. Then make it something neutral. But naming it after Casey -- still -- three years after he left, is a bit insulting to our current coach. AND. Fotball isn't named after Riley, Men's Basketball isn't named after Miller, and Women's Basketball isn't named after Reuck. Especially if he becomes coach at Texas A&M.....
