And no, I'm not counting the auto bids for conference winners in those six.
RPI certainly was the criteria for who hosted. The only top 16 team overlooked was #12 Coastal Carolina. Not sure why they got hosed, but they did. We ended the season with an RPI of 44. Who got in ahead of us? Here are the teams and their RPI's: Nebraska (47), New Mexico (48), U Conn (51), Long Beach State (52), Washington (55), and St. Mary's (57). Maybe we should ask them whose butt they kissed?
I don't care what the hacks at ESPN or the NCAA say. We were not a "bubble team". Not when there are six teams who got in ahead of you with a worse RPI. It's going to take a very long time before I quit being angry over this. We got screwed, pure and simple. And it damned well better not happen next year.

Bingo.....agree with what went on....lot of politics taking place where it shouldn't be. Meggs smells on this one and obviously had some influence being on the committee. Of course the dude baseball1111 or whatever he goes by will try to tell where you are wrong.....look at the analysis of Baseball America and it was pretty much consensus that OSU was the one team that got snubbed.

It's going to take a very long time before I quit being angry over this. We got screwed, pure and simple. And it damned well better not happen next year. First... I can certainly agree how from our perspective we feel screwed, but we basically did it to ourselves with our play and NC schedule. Here are (3) other components that are used... not solely but factors: ...........RPI....SOS....NC RPI.....NC SOS OSU.....44.....121.......44............236 NEB.....47.....101.......39............85 NMex...48.....119.......37............42 UConn..51....124.......58...........130 LB........52.....89........61............88 UW......55.....71........72...........102 SM.......57.....72.......108............40 ASU.....43......55.......23..............86 Minn....50.....104.......45............78 The NC SOS killed our hopes (along with the mid season swoon). Our key #s suck overall. It's not just RPI's. And, lastly... Meggs maybe the biggest arse there is and in not giving PC a call looks the part. But, those complaining about his role are giving him credit for way to much power/input. The selection people make EVERY decision. If the Pac 12 was given four slots he can't talk them into a 5th. And with 4 slots and Utah winning the title, PC may have felt better about said call, but it would not have changed one thing. Meggs or no Meggs, the screwing was by the committee alone and giving 8 or more spots to ANY conference is a joke.

Our key #s suck overall. It's not just RPI's. I've been told that NC SOS is not a significant factor in deciding who gets in and who doesn't. RPI is supposed to take SOS into consideration. Only two of those six teams had a better NC RPI than us. The numbers do NOT justify their decision. And if you think I'm a sore loser, you've never met Pat Casey. He really hates to lose.

Not trying to suave any wounds... just presenting facts. RPI is a % of the decision... obviously it's not the ONLY factor or selction would be easy after the auto bids. Just take the next best RPIs not selected until the field is at 64. BUT, all of those numbers come into play... as does conference overall RPI, how you finished over the last 10, and specific bad losses. AND, of course bias of members. They do break down the RPI as 75% is based on who you play, not necessarily if you win or lose. It's why RPI is totally bogus as a main component. It is used and misused and like any data/statistics they can be used and distorted to support a point of view. As long as there is a "committee" some team(s) will go through this every year in every sport. And... I do know PC... he's no more competitive/hates losing/takes it as a personal affront win his team is shafted as do many many many coaches. It's part of what sets great teachers/coaches apart... they simply do not except failure. In this case, it's over. Time to fix it.

From what I can see the selection committee only worries about how you perform the final 8 games subtracting the last 2 games. Every year almost all their decisions were made prior to the 2 games, at least concerning the western teams.

There's a guy named devildog that really doesn't like my opinions on the football team, but we haven't crossed paths in a while.

South Alabama loses 12-2 to Southern Miss
Nebraska loses 6-0 to Oklahoma State
Those were clearly deserving teams - glad they got to participate.

ASU losing doesn't exactly help our case, as we came in with almost identical metrics and needed a 5-1 finish to the season to get there.

Can't believe what a joke South Alabama is by getting an invite because of their guy heading the selection committee. Lose 14-2 to a mediocre Southern Miss team. Way to represent. Nebraska same story, the two of them outscored 20-2 today.

UW not only loses, but does so in 14 innings, so looking good for a quick exit. Good for Meggs.
