The Texas A&M Aggies did not renew the contract of their longtime coach, Rob Childress. In order to keep their very sucessfull coach in place and away from the Aggies, Texas Tech signed Coach Tim Tadlock to a new lifetime contract with a generous compensation package. A&M had a high level of interest in Tadlock and that narrowed A&M's options in seeking a big name college coach. A&M wants to be competitive in the SEC and in Omaha and no doubt is willing to reward the right guy handsomely . The candidates being mentioned are Jim Schlossnagel from TCU, Tony Vitello from Tennessee, and Cliff Godwin from East Carolina. And one more big name . . .read what D1 Baseball's Kendall Rogers has to say . . .
"I"d like to throw another potential name into the mix on this job — former Oregon State coach Pat Casey. Yes, Casey retired and is a couple of years removed from the game. But sources close to the long-time skipper say he has an itch to return to coaching, and where else are you going to find a coach who has won three national titles during his tenure? Casey being hired at A&M would remind me a lot of Texas hiring Augie Garrido away from Cal State Fullerton. How did that workout for the Longhorns? They won two more national championships during his tenure. I don’t think that Casey is an official candidate for now, but in my eyes, he should be. A rejuvenated, motivated, Pat Casey could be a potential gold mine for the Aggies.
Texas A&M was thrown for a curveball with Monday’s news out of the Hub City, but with an early start on its coaching search, it’s still in a position of strength. As for Tadlock, one of his greatest traits is loyalty to his coaching staff, and, now, his alma mater."

He's doing a ton of work on his College Hill house, or building another house on the property. His kids and grandkids and parents and brothers live in Oregon. I don't think he's going anywhere, especially Texas. But who knows, Pat's a pretty private person and he's certainly not telling me anything.

I bet Pat Casey is mentioned for every SEC job that ever comes open. It's a no brainer to see if he's interested

If Pat wants to climb back in the saddle more power to him. After all he accomplished here he owes OSU nothing.
Taking on a new program and uprooting your life at age 60+ does seem highly improbable.

An interesting point here - Kendall Rogers has a good relationship with Casey, PC used to talk openly with Rogers. Why would Rogers refer to "sources close to Casey" instead of calling the coach to guage his interest in returning to coaching? Could PC be the one expressing the interest and Rogers is attributing it to sources close to the coach to cover Casey? I doubt it.
I hope Rogers isn't channeling Canzano, the master of "anonymous sources", "my sources tell me", "I'm hearing ...", a fiend told me ...." Canzano's "sources" are a crutch for his vivid little imagination.
Imaginative writing, creative journalism, and rank b.s. have become commonplace in todays reporting.
FWIW - I think there are several good reasons PC wouldn't be interested in the A&M gig. Since he stepped down at OSU, I suspect he has had more than a few feelers/ opportunities float his way. He's still here having fun and vowing to lower his handicap.

LOL "Dennis will never leave Oregon State. He's happier now than he's ever been, and besides Marilyn just loves Corvallis." Dennis had about 15 jobs before coming to Corvallis, never stayed in one place more than 3-4 years. Pat had one job and has stayed in Corvallis for 27 years. Apples to oranges, doncha think maybe?

Sure.
You and I knew that but a lot of Beaver football fans didn't. They were stunned by his sudden departure.
In retrospect, he has mentioned several times leaving Oregon State was the biggest mistake he ever made.
Trading a faithful Beaver nation for the franchise gutting 49ers was a terrible decision. Saddled with a bloated payroll of over the hill and unable to play free agents, signed by Carmen Policy and with the cost cutting axe of Denise DeBartolo and John York looming, Erickson was doomed the day he signed his contract.
Sad day all around.

When Ericson left I became forever untrusting of HC's and their lip service. That one hurt.
I was a student during those years and it felt like the sky was the limit......he loved Corvallis....never gonna leave....blah, blah, blah.
That's what makes Pat Casey so special......I couldn't imagine him being the skipper of another program.
